Namwon morning café for fresh-baked scones: Monocle Jeju in Seogwipo

In short

Monocle Jeju is a dessert café with a garden on Taewi-ro in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju. Arriving as the first customer right at opening, the writer had sweet pumpkin cheesecake, the signature crown brown coffee and a classic scone just cooled from the oven at an outdoor table. Monocle Jeju has been a Blue Ribbon pick since 2020 and makes an easy first stop of the morning.

Why Monocle Jeju was a top 3 stop on this Jeju trip

Seogwipo dessert café Monocle Jeju is easily one of my top 3 spots from this trip. The café itself was so pretty, and the desserts and coffee were delicious too — it was such a good time..!

From the entrance to the garden: a hidden café in Namwon-eup

Even the walk from the entrance to the front of the café was pretty, and since it's not a giant, crowded café packed with people, it had this hidden-gem feeling. I went early in the morning so there were no other customers, which made it even better! Such a good way to start the day~

The landscaping around the café is done so beautifully that just sitting outside felt healing. Seriously, you have to hit up a pretty café when you travel~

And it's not just pretty — Monocle Jeju has been a Seogwipo dessert café that's kept its Blue Ribbon since 2020. It's hard to find a café that's both pretty and delicious, you know,,,

Coming in early meant I was the very first customer, nobody else around, which made me even happier~ The smell of baking bread inside the store was amazing too ><

Monocle Jeju dessert menu

Monocle Jeju is known as a cheesecake spot in Seogwipo, and the sweet pumpkin cheesecake is the most famous signature menu item.

  • Classic cheesecake
  • Earl Grey cheesecake
  • Matcha cheesecake
  • Victoria cake
  • Chocolate fudge cake
  • Classic scone
  • Lemon madeleine
  • Pound cake

I'm already a dessert fanatic, so I wanted to try literally everything,,

Interior with large windows and wooden door at Monocle Jeju

After ordering, I took my time wandering around the inside of the café — the green garden view outside paired so well with the wooden door, and the sunlight pouring in through the huge windows was just gorgeous..! (Suddenly going full sentimental mode)

The three things we ordered at Monocle Jeju

After agonizing over the menu for a while, I finally landed on the signature sweet pumpkin cheesecake, the signature crown brown coffee, and a scone fresh out of the oven! (And yes, I secretly ordered one more cake to go..)

The green scenery outside the window from inside the café was really pretty~

It felt like a bit of a waste to enjoy such delicious desserts and coffee only sitting inside, so I brought everything outside~

Sweet pumpkin cheesecake

Monocle Jeju's signature sweet pumpkin cheesecake! First of all, I love that it's flour-free~ It's a creamy cheesecake made with fresh pumpkin grown in Jeju, and honestly..! It's completely moist with that real 100% pumpkin feel, blending with the soft cheese so that you taste the pumpkin's own natural sweetness rather than anything artificial — soft, healthy, and delicious all at once.

Freshly baked and cooled classic scone at Monocle Jeju

Fresh-baked classic scone

The smell of baking scones filled the store, but the display case was empty, so I asked — turns out a fresh batch had just come out of the oven and had only just cooled down, so I quickly ordered one~ A freshly baked scone is just... wow..! Crispy on the outside, so soft inside, and even better with jam spread on it!

Monocle Jeju's signature crown brown coffee

Signature crown brown coffee

And then the signature crown brown coffee! It's Monocle's signature coffee made with house-made caramel cream and brown cheese, where the sweet coffee, soft cream, and salty brown cheese come together in perfect harmony — I basically chugged the whole thing down~

Boxed takeout cake ordered from Monocle Jeju

Takeout cake kept refrigerated until we left

The cake I'd ordered to go earlier was packed up and kept in the fridge for me, then handed over when I was leaving~

Getting my sugar fix in such a pretty place first thing in the morning made for such a great start to a happy day of traveling! If I come back to Jeju, Seogwipo dessert café Monocle Jeju is definitely a place I'd want to visit again.
