We're a couple of food-obsessed bloggers with very different palates, testing places ourselves and honestly rating whether we'd go back. Whenever we get the chance, we travel around the country and Asia hunting for good food. We had some business on Jeju in July, so we booked an Airbnb near Jungmun in Seogwipo and spent our time checking out local restaurants. Today we're bringing you an honest review of a pork restaurant that's apparently popular with Jeju locals — Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch.

Dry-aged meat is the signature
Meat dry-aging away in the fridge. Dry-aged meat is Oreumak Garden's specialty, and maybe that's exactly why so many Jeju local uncles who really know their meat were in the restaurant, haha.
🌟 What is dry aging? It's a dry aging method that maintains a steady temperature, humidity, and ventilation, which is said to deepen the meat's flavor and make the texture more tender and savory.

As we ate, we noticed it was mostly locals — groups of two or three uncles stopping by for dinner rather than tourists — and that only raised our expectations!!

Basic side dishes, free steamed egg, and mel jorim
The basic side dishes were pan-fried tofu, macaroni salad, seasoned bamboo shoots, along with lettuce wraps, seasoned radish, kimchi, and seasoned zucchini.

They also brought out a free steamed egg!
And then the mel jorim (braised anchovy sauce) — this was seriously delicious!!

It wasn't salty or fishy at all, just wonderfully savory — good on its own, good dipped with meat, but personally I liked it best mixed into a bowl of white rice thanks to that deep umami.

White pork fresh ribs and black pork ogyeopsal
After enjoying the basics, out came the white pork fresh ribs and black pork ogyeopsal (pork belly).

The garlic and shrimp grilled in butter were also a real treat.

Staff grill the meat for you — they put the fresh ribs on first, then use the remaining space to grill the pork belly, cooking everything just right.

Now that it's all nicely browned, let's dig in!
We tried the fresh ribs first. Black pork is famous on Jeju, but we'd had delicious Jeju-produced white pork before, so just from the look of it we knew — this was going to be good.... hahaha. Soft, tender, and savory,
tasty
