Solo dining pot rice under 11,000 won in Ansan: Dongyang Sotbap

Last weekday, before heading to my wedding dress fitting, I had lunch at Dongyang Sotbap, a well-loved spot in Gojan-dong, Ansan 😋 I've been here countless times with friends and on dates with my boyfriend — we both love Korean food, so we really love this place 🥰 It had been a while, so I decided to revisit and share an honest review!

🚘 Parking near Dongyang Sotbap

Dongyang Sotbap, a favorite in Ansan Jungang-dong, doesn't have in-building parking, so I used a nearby public lot! 📍 Please refer to the Megabox public parking lot at 566 Gojan-dong, Dangwon-gu, Ansan-si 😉

Second floor: is there a wait, and how does takeout work?

Dongyang Sotbap, near Ansan Jungang Station, is located on the 2nd floor of the building! There's a menu board out front so you can check it before going in. Waiting is done by hand-written list! *Takeout orders can be placed immediately (container fee of ₩2,000 added)

Dongyang Sotbap in Ansan Jungang-dong is a genuine hit spot that has even opened branches in China and Taiwan 🥰 It's a Korean pot rice restaurant that's gone overseas, so I've always trusted it whenever I visit haha

Seating at Dongyang Sotbap for solo diners and groups

Here's the interior of Dongyang Sotbap near Ansan Jungang Station 😊 The inside is quite spacious with plenty of seats, so it's fine for groups, and there are also 1-2 person seats for solo dining ☺️ It's been open a while but the interior is kept very clean and tidy, with everything from private wood-partitioned tables to comfy sofa seats haha

Ordering is done via the tablet at each table! ✔️ FYI, Dongyang Sotbap gives one free main menu item when you collect 10 stamps, so if you visit often, collecting stamps is a good idea!

Self-serve corner: banchan and roasted rice water

The self-serve corner had basic banchan (side dishes), roasted rice water, and regular water ready to grab haha. The roasted rice water was really nutty and nice to drink warm ⸜( *ˊᵕˋ* )⸝

And soon the dishes I ordered arrived 😍 My spicy pork neck pot rice and gyudon pot rice!!!! 🤍 FYI, Dongyang Sotbap serves seaweed soup as the default base soup haha. Having a hot soup on hand really helps the rice go down (*´꒳`*)

The basic banchan were seasoned squid, stir-fried nuts, and pickles, which paired nicely with the pot rice! And if you run out, you can grab more from the self-serve corner 👍

The visuals on the spicy pork neck pot rice were amazing... the subtle spicy aroma made my mouth water...

Next up, the gyudon pot rice!!!! With a poached egg on top, it looked so delicious... with gyudon and chopped scallions sprinkled on, mixing in the poached egg would surely make it taste like honey 🤗

Being a pot rice dish, of course it couldn't be bad, and the visuals were a total pass too!! Being able to enjoy pot rice with this kind of visual for under or just over ₩10,000 feels almost unfair... Dongyang Sotbap, a great-value pot rice spot perfect for solo dining 😍

This was my first time trying the gyudon pot rice, and with the poached egg on top, the combination of rich egg flavor and the well-seasoned gyudon was really good — I wanted to eat it again 😆 It's an approachable, tasty pot rice that anyone can enjoy, no wonder it's a bestseller haha. The spicy pork neck pot rice is something I've been ordering for a long time — it's a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun, so I wouldn't recommend it to those who can't handle spice! But if you love spicy food, you'll really love this. The pork neck is also packed in generously, so there's still meat left even after you finish all the rice 😋

Honestly it's so much my style that I've lost count of how many times I've ordered the spicy pork neck pot rice haha. It's a stress-relieving flavor, highly recommend

Sipping the seaweed soup between bites of rice is heavenly 😘

Side dishes: Dongyang pork cutlet 5,900 won and honey kkwabaro 4,900 won

And the sides we ordered — pork cutlet and kkulkkwobarrow (sweet fried pork)!!😊 Both looked super crispy, great visuals... 🥰 And the portions matched the price perfectly, just the right amount to enjoy alongside the rice haha

You know eating these between bites of rice hits different...

The pork cutlet sauce was rich and the breading crispy, a good portion for 2-3 people to share, and the kkulkkwobarrow was sweeter than I expected with barely any sourness haha. Crispy outside, tender inside, so tasty... all the side dishes were a hit too!!😍

As a Korean food lover, it was hard to find a good-value pot rice place suitable for solo dining, but ever since Dongyang Sotbap opened, I've been visiting really often haha. From the sides to the mains, nothing has disappointed — guaranteed good food!!
