Salmon and mixed sashimi takeout in Jumunjin Market: Minja Hoetjip

In short

Minja Hoetjip is a sashimi restaurant inside Jumunjin Fish Market in Gangneung, Gangwon, where you can eat in or order sashimi to go. For drinks back at the guesthouse, this visit meant a takeout order of mixed sashimi and salmon plus abalone, shrimp and whelk, which unwrapped into a full spread of packed plates. After a whole day out in Gangneung, Minja Hoetjip's sashimi takeout was an easy way to finish the evening indoors.

Can't visit Gangneung without eating sashimi, right? Haha. This time, instead of eating right at the restaurant, I wanted to relax with a drink back at the accommodation, so while looking into sashimi restaurants in Jumunjin, I ended up getting mixed sashimi takeout from Minja Hoetjip inside Jumunjin Fish Market.

It was a great stop before heading back to the room since I could browse the market and grab sashimi and seafood all in one place. Once I unpacked everything at the accommodation, the spread turned out way more generous than I expected, and it really felt like a proper trip.

Where is Minja Hoetjip inside Jumunjin Fish Market?

Minja Hoetjip is a sashimi restaurant I visited while wandering around Jumunjin Fish Market, at 3-3 Sijang 2-gil, Jumunjin-eup, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea. The yellow signboard stood out, and there were tables set up inside, so eating right there was also an option.

When I visited, there were a lot of customers eating, so the inside was pretty busy. Since our plan for the day was to eat comfortably back at the accommodation, we decided on Jumunjin sashimi takeout instead of dining in.

On a trip, it can be kind of annoying to eat dinner out and then head back to the accommodation afterward, but being able to browse the market, pick up sashimi, and go straight back made the whole route much easier.

King crab and live seafood in the tanks out front

While waiting for my order at Minja Hoetjip, I checked out the tanks, and that's really part of the fun of visiting a fish market. There were all kinds of live fish and seafood, but the thing that caught my eye the most was the king crab! The tank was packed with them, so I ended up spending a while just watching them even though I only came for sashimi takeout, haha.

I only meant to get sashimi, but watching the crabs made me want to eat king crab too. If you're looking into Jumunjin king crab, it seems like a great idea to browse the sashimi and seafood together while checking out Jumunjin Fish Market.

Ordering mixed sashimi to take back to the room

I brought the sashimi from Minja Hoetjip straight back to the room and unpacked it right away. Carrying the bag, I had no idea, but once I laid everything out piece by piece, it turned out to be way more generous than expected. A big plate packed full of mixed sashimi, plus salmon on top!

It wasn't just one kind of fish — there were several varieties, so it was fun switching between them. The sashimi wasn't sliced too thin either, it had a nice thickness so you could really feel the texture when you chewed, and going from the clean-tasting sashimi to the rich, savory salmon in between made a great combination.

Once I laid out the whole spread to take a photo, it looked pretty impressive for a dinner eaten at the accommodation, haha. If you're looking into Jumunjin sashimi takeout and planning to drink at your accommodation like we did, packing it to go is such a convenient option.

Abalone, shrimp and whelk to eat with the sashimi

What I personally liked was that it wasn't just sashimi — I could enjoy various seafood alongside it! As shown in the photos, we had abalone, shrimp, and whelk together, and it was the perfect drinking snack.

A piece of sashimi, then an abalone, then a shrimp, then a piece of salmon again, haha. Instead of eating one thing continuously, picking one of each kept me reaching for more. With lettuce wraps and sauces spread out too, it felt like a proper sashimi restaurant spread right at the accommodation, no need to eat out at all.

And sashimi can't be complete without a drink, haha. Since we were in Gangwon-do, we got some Malgeun Gangwon-do soju to go with it, and having a drink with the sashimi and seafood made it feel like a proper trip.

Eating out means having to travel back to the accommodation afterward, but bringing it back to go meant we could relax in comfortable clothes and eat slowly, which was another plus. Especially on a day when you've been out exploring Gangneung all day, there are times when going out again for dinner just feels like too much.

For those moments, picking up sashimi takeout from Jumunjin Fish Market before heading back to the accommodation is a great way to relax with a drink and wrap up the day.

Is Minja Hoetjip worth it for sashimi takeout in Jumunjin?

Minja Hoetjip, which we used this time, allowed both dine-in and takeout to enjoy back at the accommodation like we did. On top of that, being able to check out the king crab and various seafood in the tanks inside Jumunjin Fish Market added to the fun of browsing the market.

If you're traveling around Gangneung or Jumunjin looking for a sashimi restaurant in Jumunjin, or want to relax and eat sashimi at your accommodation in the evening, I'd recommend getting it as takeout.

Laying out mixed sashimi plus seafood plus lettuce wraps plus soju like we did makes for a complete dinner spread at the accommodation! Eating slowly in comfortable clothes is really part of the charm of traveling, haha.
