Sinnonhyeon gyukatsu Set 3 with steki-don and a fried egg: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a gyukatsu (deep-fried beef cutlet) restaurant on Bongeunsa-ro 4-gil, between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station in Seoul. On a weekday at 1pm, before a baseball game, the writer ordered Set 3 — gyukatsu, steki-don (steak rice bowl) and two drinks for 42,000 won — and added a 5,000-won mini curry and a 1,000-won fried egg. The sirloin gyukatsu grilled on a tabletop brazier with Isigny butter and the soft-yolk fried egg were the highlights, making Ichigyu an easy recommendation for lunch in Gangnam.

Where is Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch, the Sinnonhyeon gyukatsu spot?
Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a gyukatsu specialist on the 2nd floor of 19 Bongeunsa-ro 4-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul — easy to reach from both Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station. It was baseball day! Priority number one was filling my stomach, so lunch first!!! Off to Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon ^.^

The entrance already has serious Japanese vibes haha. Looked around at the cute little props for a bit before heading in!!

We went just past 1pm on a weekday and the place was packed. So many people here for lunch — of course a good restaurant is busy even on weekdays, huh.

Grabbing a seat. Every table around us filled up too. The moment we walked in, sizzling sounds and delicious smells everywhere!

The little grill they use at gyukatsu places ^.^ It's so cute I kind of want to bring one home hahaha.
Ichigyu menu: what comes in Set 3

Since gyukatsu is their specialty, gotta try the gyukatsu ^.^?! But their set menus looked well put together, so we ordered Set 3 — gyukatsu + steki-don + 2 drinks for ₩42,000, plus a mini curry for ₩5,000 and a fried egg for ₩1,000!!

How to eat gyukatsu at Ichigyu
This place gives you Isigny butter alongside your meat, so you can eat it with so much more flavor!

Wasabi, chili, and salt — three sauces to mix it up. I'm a salt + wasabi person!
Drinks first, in the ice-filled cups! The set includes 2 drinks, and you can choose cola or cider.

A cute rice bowl like the ones you'd see at a hitsumabushi (grilled eel rice) restaurant!!! Open it up and there's white rice inside, plus a rice paddle to serve yourself. And they give you so much rice!!!!! Isn't a stingy little rice portion supposed to be the standard at cutlet places?! Good thing I ordered the mini curry ^.^
Sirloin gyukatsu grilled with Isigny butter
Fire on. I think they light the burner first so the plate gets hot — that way you can start cooking the meat the second it arrives ^.^?! Gyukatsu has arrived! They use nice sirloin beef. Comes with salad, miso soup, sauce, and cabbage!

That thick cross-section of meat is a work of art! The marbling looks so perfectly balanced, wow.

The Isigny butter that came with it!! A butter famous for being delicious even among butters ^.^ First time I've seen gyukatsu served with butter — surprising but also exciting.

Swirl the butter around the grill before cooking the meat and the beef-butter flavor really levels up ^.^

Placing the meat on. Laying several pieces on at once makes it look so much more generous and delicious. Drooling...
They said about 8 seconds of cooking is the sweet spot, so flip at the right moment! Even overcooked it doesn't get tough, but my style is to eat it a little on the rare side!!!

Nicely golden brown, right??? I was so hungry that even the short cooking wait felt hard haha.
One bite and the inside is a perfect medium. I think this doneness is the tastiest... Beef needs to keep a little pink in it to be good ^.^
Took one bite and lost control I'm so hooked hahahahahahahaha grill it, grill it!!!!! let's eat let's eat

How was the steki-don in Set 3?
Steki-don has arrived. This one's a rice bowl piled generously with sirloin steak too — you can grill the meat on the burner or just eat it as-is, both are good ^.^

This one also comes with an egg yolk and Isigny butter, so you add them to your taste.

Obviously I'm adding both!!! Rich flavor + rich flavor = insanely good!!!!!!! Such a deep, luscious taste.

This is roughly the doneness it comes at — medium to medium-rare, so grill it further on the burner if you like it more done! But I ate most of it just like this hahaha. Not tough at all, still full of savory flavor, and it pairs perfectly with rice mixed with butter and yolk!!
Are the 5,000-won mini curry and 1,000-won fried egg worth adding?
The mini curry we added did its job better than expected — nice to have as a refreshing bite in between. ₩5,000 well spent ^.^ You could bite into garlic chips too, nice texture!! It has that signature super-smooth Japanese curry feel that just slides right down.
Please, definitely order the fried egg... you get an absolutely incredible soft, silky soft-yolk fried egg!!!! Some places use frozen eggs, but this one is genuinely moist. Really really good!!! This person is a fried egg master, seriously...
Is Ichigyu worth it for lunch in Gangnam?
A place that felt great from the moment we walked in because the staff were so kind. It was around lunch rush and pretty packed, but they still served everyone kindly, and the food itself was so, so good 👍👍 If you're looking for a Gangnam lunch restaurant, Ichigyu comes highly recommended!!!!
