In short

Sottture Dakdoritang is a cast-iron lid chicken stew restaurant tucked in a Seongjeong-dong alley in Cheonan. With its own parking lot, baby chairs, and a self-serve side dish bar, the writer brought a child along for a whole chicken dakdoritang (serves 2-3) with rolled omelet, finishing with scorched rice fried rice pressed right on the lid. Sottture Dakdoritang is a solid pick for family outings where parking and bringing kids along usually feel stressful.

Basic side dishes set out after ordering

After ordering, the basic side dishes get set up, and the neat spread is more than enough to get your appetite going!

We ordered the signature whole chicken dakdoritang (serves 2-3) from this Cheonan restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Sottture Dakdoritang, along with a fluffy rolled omelet as a side.

The dream combo: cast-iron lid dakdoritang and fluffy rolled omelet

Finally, the long-awaited whole chicken dakdoritang arrived, served in a big cast-iron pot lid.

This Cheonan restaurant's dakdoritang is overwhelming just to look at — loaded with big chunks of chicken, vegetables, and potatoes. And wait, is that a cute little chick sitting right in the middle of the stew? My kid's eyes lit up the moment they spotted it :)

Thanks to the intense heat that the cast-iron lid holds, the broth quickly reduced down and thickened, letting the seasoning soak right into the meat.

Spicy yet deeply savory — an absolute hit 👍 We kept exclaiming that this is exactly the kind of dish that makes you eat way more rice than you planned.

Just look at this chicken, soaked through with that thick sauce.

Chicken breast usually feels dry and you tend to avoid it, right? But the breast meat at this Cheonan restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Sottture Dakdoritang, isn't tough at all — it's incredibly tender!

The chicken has no gamey smell and is soft and tender, and dipping the thoroughly cooked potatoes into the thick broth had us sighing with satisfaction.

And don't even get me started on the chewy wheat rice cakes, soaked through with all that broth!

It's delicious even just piling a thick piece of chicken on top of plain white rice

and mixing the rice into the sweet-savory broth with a piece of meat on top is absolutely heavenly too 👍

On top of that, the rolled omelet we ordered as an extra had a thick, fluffy texture that paired perfectly with the spicy broth. Alternating between the omelet and the stew right when the spice kicked in got even my picky-eater kid to polish off a whole bowl of rice 👍

The finishing touch: scorched rice fried rice in the pot lid

After finishing the stew, there's one essential course you can never skip — the pot-lid fried rice!

Fried rice being stir-fried on the pot lid

They stir-fry rice right on the pot lid with the remaining rich sauce, adding plenty of egg, sesame oil, and seaweed flakes,

then let it sit until it just starts to catch on the bottom before scraping it up — the crispy, nutty taste of that scorched rice needs no further explanation. It's beyond perfect 👍
