Gangnam café for lemon cake and mango lemonade: Upper and Under

I had refreshing lemon cake and a delicious pistachio cream drink.

Upper and Under hours and location

Hours are 11:00–22:00 daily. It is at 28 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, from basement level 1 through the second floor.

A serene, spacious café in Gangnam

I can't believe there's such a serene, spacious café in Gangnam! I came on a date with my husband; we ate a huge first round, then came to the café for round two, haha. Thankfully it was a weekday, so there were seats, but I think weekends would be busier. Such a popular café!

The atmosphere is so nice. Let's head in, step step. When I have plans around Gangnam Station, I always wonder which café to go to, but Upper and Under gets a big thumbs-up: a great atmosphere, a spacious building all to itself, and decent desserts too.

Ordering pistachio drinks and lemon cake

There were lots of different drinks. We ordered the pistachio drink and mango lemonade.

The dessert cakes were so pretty! I ordered the lemon cake.

There were lots of baked treats too. Just looking at them put me in a good mood.

They even had the trendy yellow cheese cake.

Second-floor seating with big windows

I went up to the second floor. The huge windows made it feel wonderfully open. It would be great for friends to visit and chat, for eating alone, and it felt relatively easy to use a laptop there too.

The pistachio menu item I recommend most

This pistachio drink is seriously delicious. The cream is nutty, and the pistachios on top work so well with it!!

Personally, this is the pistachio item I most want to recommend. It has pistachio's signature nutty, subtly sweet flavor, and that nutty richness comes through beautifully. The cream is really delicious.

Mango lemonade and lemon dessert together

The mango lemonade. Since it was evening, I ordered a decaf drink, and it had a whole lemon in it—pure refreshment!

The lemon cake had a cream cheese flavor too, so it was nicely rich, and this was another total success. The Nunettine financier was chewy, sweet, and so good too.

It photographs so well too, haha. There is mango at the bottom, so give it a stir before drinking. The bits of mango are so delicious.

It goes so, so well with the desserts.

The cream is so rich that eating it by the spoonful is heaven.

A refreshing, moist lemon cake

The dessert was pretty and delicious, so I was completely satisfied! Cakes can often taste overly sweet because of the cream or sugar, but I loved that this lemon cake felt comparatively clean and light, with lemon's fresh aroma and acidity added in. With the first bite, a gentle lemon fragrance spreads first, followed by the flavor of soft, moist cake. If you like refreshing desserts, I think it would really suit your taste.

Perfect for choosing from a range of desserts and spending time at ease in a spacious setting! If you are looking for an atmospheric café in Gangnam or a great dessert spot near Sinnonhyeon Station, Upper and Under is worth adding to your list. I think it would be especially nice for two or three people to share several desserts.
