Seoul Station Japanese restaurant with solo-friendly gyukatsu: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Jung-gu, Seoul, serving gyukatsu, steak bowls and omurice. The writer returned several times and especially loved the 42,000 won gyukatsu set for two, the butter tabletop grill and freely served warm rice. Verdict: a filling, friendly choice for gyukatsu near Seoul Station.

I’m back with a review of Ichigyu, my go-to, go-to, go-to gyukatsu spot near Seoul Station ❤️ It really is one of my regulars°°° If you work nearby, it’s great for a quality lunch. They even have small beers, so a tiny lunchtime escape is possible haha.
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch: location and hours
Ichigyu is in B116 on B1, 98 Huam-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul—the basement of the LG building by Seoul Station! Hours are 11:00–21:30, with a break from 15:00–17:00.

I’ve been here several times, and they do everything well—from gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) to steak rice bowls and omurice... Just a heads-up: it can get busy when it overlaps with nearby office workers’ lunch hour ><
Spacious seating that is comfortable for solo diners

There are lots of seats inside, with plenty of space between them. I spotted lots of people dining alone, too!
A varied menu, from gyukatsu to curry

If you come to Ichigyu with a friend, the set menus are such a smart, good-value choice haha. They also show you how to enjoy gyukatsu properly~

There’s a wide range of à la carte options too, including gyukatsu, steki-don (Japanese steak rice bowl), hamburger steak and Japanese-style curry.
Receipt-review perk

Don’t miss the receipt review perk~~ You get a shrimp tempura for every review haha.
Set 1 with gyukatsu for two and drinks
We ordered Set 1: gyukatsu for two plus two drinks, for ₩42,000.

Our set came with two drinks, so we chose Coke Zero. The drinks arrived first with cups of ice haha.

And then the gyukatsu appeared >< The portion is seriously so generous, right??

Ahh... that gyukatsu color... need I say more 😢❤️
Warm rice to serve yourself as freely as you like

For us introverts, asking the owner for more rice can feel awkward, right?! And these days, plenty of places don’t offer free extra rice, either.

At Ichigyu, they bring you a rice pot, so you can serve as much as you want—comfortably, without feeling self-conscious! Another huge plus is that the rice stays warm throughout the meal! 🍚
Gyukatsu grilled on a tabletop burner with butter
The salad and jang-guk (clear soup) served alongside it are perfect matches for the gyukatsu >< There’s so much gyukatsu that you’ll be bursting by the end haha.

They also bring butter for grilling on the tabletop burner.
A soft, tender cross-section of beef

Ah, you can tell just from the color of this cross-section... that it’s soft, tender gyukatsu..! ㅜㅜ The fine grain of the meat is so clearly there.

I couldn’t wait, so straight onto the grill it went!! With lots of butter, the smell was insane and the flavor was amazing. It was full of rich, nutty butter aroma ㅠㅠ
I liked that the grill was large enough to put several pieces of gyukatsu on at once haha. I’m a slow eater, so the flame went out a few times, but the owner kindly kept replacing it, and I was able to eat warm gyukatsu ><

The look once it’s cooked..ㅜㅜ It truly melts in your mouth. Maybe it’s because they use good beef, but both the texture and taste are just. per. fect. ✨️

It’s delicious with rice, and delicious with salad too°°° By the way, how cooked do you all like your gyukatsu?

My absolute favorite is eating it like this, topped with a dab of wasabi!
A Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant I have returned to again and again
If you’re looking for a great date spot or a great place for a meal with a good location and atmosphere near Seoul Station, I highly recommend Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch ❤️ It’s one of my go-to, go-to, go-to places! It’s delicious enough to revisit again and again... friendly... clean... just an all-around perfect restaurant.
I already love gyukatsu and have tried it in lots of places, but I always feel that you need good beef for a tender texture, just the right richness and great flavor. Ichigyu satisfies me every single time—it’s a real gyukatsu gem haha. I recommend it with confidence ❤️🥩
