Seoul Station Japanese restaurant for butter gyukatsu: Furato Shokudo
In short
Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a Japanese restaurant in Jung-gu, Seoul, with easy access from Seoul Station. On a Friday evening, we grilled a gyukatsu set over a small brazier and enjoyed it with butter and salt. Verdict: the hands-on grilling and tender beef made for a satisfying dinner.

A great spot for gyukatsu dinner near Seoul Station
My friend and I were looking for dinner near Seoul Station, and I suddenly craved gyukatsu for the first time in ages, so we went to Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store (후라토식당 서울스퀘어 직영점).

Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is inside Seoul Square, so it is easy to find from Seoul Station. It is a two-minute walk from Exit 9, and you can enter directly from the subway station, making it such a good meeting spot near Seoul Station.
Inside, with tables for two to four

The restaurant has tables for two through four, so the layout felt easy to use for different group sizes. It is nice for an intimate meal for two, and there are also tables for groups of three or four, so it looked like a solid choice for a meal with friends or a small gathering.

Furato Shokudo is currently giving away mini karaage (Japanese fried chicken) OR a drink through its Naver Review event, so be sure to join in!
Ordering from the menu with an NFC tag

The menu was more varied than I expected. I thought there would only be gyukatsu, but there were also steki set meals, omurice, rice bowls, and curry, so it was easy to choose based on what you feel like. If you visit with a friend, it could be nice for one person to order gyukatsu and the other something else, then share.

The gyukatsu set and how to grill it yourself
We ordered the gyukatsu set that day. After all, it would have felt a little disappointing to come all this way and not eat gyukatsu, haha.

After a short wait, the gyukatsu arrived. It came with rice, miso soup, cabbage salad, and more, making it a great full-meal setup.

As soon as you put the beef on the little brazier, it starts sizzling, which is quietly so fun, haha. Rather than loading on too much at once, we grilled only as much as we were going to eat. Being able to control the doneness yourself was so good.

Rather than cooking it too thoroughly, I preferred searing the outside a little more while keeping the inside tender.

If you put butter on the gyukatsu before placing it on the brazier, the buttery aroma soaks in and makes it even more tender!!

It was filling with rice, and the cabbage salad worked well alongside it, cutting through the richness of the fried coating now and then.

Crisp breading and tender beef

The coating was crisp and the meat inside was tenderㅠㅠ Crispy outside, moist inside ❤️ I tried it lightly dipped in salt and in sauce too, but personally, I liked the salt best because it let the clean flavor of the beef come through.

Delicious with just a bit of wasabi, too!
If you are looking for dinner with a friend near Seoul Station, or craving gyukatsu instead of ordinary tonkatsu, Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store would be worth adding to your list. We were really happy with it as a place to meet on a Friday evening, eat, and chat, too.
