Seoul Korean BBQ birthday dinner near Sangbong Station: Super Naengsam
In short
Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch is a frozen pork belly (naengsam) restaurant near Sangbong Station in Jungnang, Seoul. To celebrate the birthday of a friend back in Korea after a working holiday in the UK, the writer ordered 3 servings of frozen pork belly and a sundubu jjigae (spicy soft tofu stew), then grilled 1 more serving once the plate was empty. The pork belly was good, but the fiery sundubu jjigae is what makes Super Naengsam worth a return trip.

A friend of mine who's been on a working holiday in the UK finally came back to Korea after way too long!
Since it had been forever, I asked, "What do you want to eat?"... and her first word was, hahaha, "I want naengsam (frozen pork belly)!!!"
She told me frozen pork belly was one of the foods she missed most while living in the UK.
It also happened to be her birthday, so I thought, let's properly celebrate with something delicious! I looked up naengsam spots near Sangbong Station, and that's how I ended up at Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch!
Where is Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch, and when is it open?

This place really specializes in frozen pork belly, and honestly, that focus worked in its favor!
Ordering 3 servings of frozen pork belly and sundubu jjigae
At Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch, we settled on 3 servings of frozen pork belly plus sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew)!

While we caught up and chatted, the side dishes started getting set out one by one,

and before long, the frozen pork belly and sundubu jjigae we'd been waiting for finally arrived!
How is the sundubu jjigae at Super Naengsam?
The sundubu jjigae at Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch turned out to be the hidden star of the day for me. This place is genuinely great for sundubu jjigae. Even just bubbling away on the table it already looked delicious, and one bite in, it was completely my style!

It had that rich, spicy flavor like my favorite gochujang stew. Not heavy or dull, just spicy with savory depth that kept building — the kind where one spoonful makes you want another.
We literally came to eat meat, but ended up spooning up sundubu jjigae before we'd even grilled anything. Stew-shoveling mode: activated, hahaha.

Frozen pork belly on the grill: the taste she missed in the UK
And finally, today's real star! They put the frozen pork belly on the grill for us~

Just hearing it sizzle on the grill already made it taste good.
As the thin pork belly slices slowly turned golden and the edges got crispy, my friend suddenly got so excited. She said this was exactly what she wanted to eat once she got back to Korea, hahaha. After being away in the UK for so long, eating frozen pork belly again in Korea seemed to make her genuinely happy.
And honestly, frozen pork belly... what more is there to say, hahaha. It's just so good!! Thin cuts cook fast, and grilled golden, the outside gets a little crispy while that nutty flavor pops.

Good eaten piece by piece, good wrapped up generously in lettuce too!

Same naengsam, but it feels different depending on how you eat it, so you just keep going, haha.

Trying different combos with my friend, at some point the plate was suddenly empty?

Adding a 4th serving: pork belly and stew together
After finishing 3 servings, we immediately ordered one more serving of frozen pork belly at Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch!! A bite of meat, a spoonful of spicy sundubu jjigae, back to meat again... the combo worked way better than expected.
Especially since my friend finally got to properly eat the naengsam she'd been craving, we both walked out really satisfied.
Honestly, this was the first time I even knew there was a naengsam place like this in Sangbong. I kept thinking, why didn't I know about this sooner? The interior was clean and the food was really good.
The frozen pork belly was great, but personally, the hidden star of the day for me was the sundubu jjigae, hahaha.

Honestly, next time I'm in the Sangbong area, I'll probably order the naengsam again, but I think I'll go back just for the sundubu jjigae. It really hit the spot for our taste, hahaha.

Is Super Naengsam a good spot for a friend's birthday?
We ate the frozen pork belly my friend had been wishing for after her working holiday in the UK, celebrated her birthday, and ate ourselves full of delicious food — a really fun time overall!
