In short
Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch is a large group-friendly bar (술집) two minutes on foot from Exit 2 of Sungshin Women's University Station in Seongbuk, Seoul. After an opening-run wait, the writer sat in a high-ceilinged hall and ordered the spicy braised whole ribs (통갈비찜) with tofu, enoki mushroom and rice cake, finishing with ramyeon noodle add-ons and fried rice. An opening-run visit into a hall with high ceilings

I was looking for a place near Sungshin Women's University with good vibes and solid food, and ended up at Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch~! These days I'm less into just drinking and snacking somewhere and more into places with a great atmosphere that are easy to visit with a group. In that sense, Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch felt perfect for anyone looking for a Sungshin group bar, a Sungshin bar, or a Sungshin restaurant recommendation!
This place is popular, so we did an opening run to get in!! After the semester starts it gets even busier than this, so come early and grab a seat for a good time!! The first thing that caught my eye walking in was the wide-open, high ceiling! It felt way more spacious than a typical bar, and the upscale interior gave the whole place a sleek feel. It's great for a casual drink with friends, but also fits work dinners, university group gatherings, or family get-togethers with lots of people~!
Up to 150 seated, up to 250 with reservation
What especially stood out about Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch was the spacious group seating! It can seat up to 150 people, and up to 250 with advance booking, so it's a solid option for larger gatherings too. The most important thing when visiting as a group is having enough room for everyone to sit comfortably, and the wide seating here makes it a good reference point if you're looking for a Sungshin group bar haha

There are also private, room-style group spaces, which would work well for university blind dates or department mixers, and also for pre-wedding gatherings or receptions that call for something a bit more special! It's apparently popular for university events, department dinners, club meetings, and after-parties too, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a group dinner spot near Sungshin~!
Since reservations fill up fast, they recommend booking 2+ weeks ahead if you have a specific date and time in mind. Especially for larger groups, booking ahead rather than walking in same-day will give you more peace of mind haha
The menu, and ordering the spicy braised whole ribs

There were all kinds of menu items here~! What made me even more excited was that it uses 100% Korean pork belly, and the sauces are made in-house by blending fruits and vegetables!

After some back and forth over what to order, we went with the Yesulgwan spicy braised whole ribs~! Next time I'd love to try some of the other menu items too~
So how does the Yesulgwan spicy braised whole ribs taste?
Our order of Yesulgwan spicy braised whole ribs arrived~!! The generous portion was impressive from the moment it hit the table!! The spicy sauce coated the ribs perfectly, making it great as a drinking snack and also just right for sharing among a group!

The ingredients were seriously packed in~! Tofu, enoki mushroom, chopped scallions, whole ribs, rice cake, and more, all piled generously~ Spicy with deep flavor — it was excellent~! If the broth runs low you can ask for more, and since it's made fresh to order, it's good to request it 5 minutes ahead!! The handmade sauce made it even more satisfying~

Dipping it in mayonnaise
The staff shared a tip for enjoying it even more! They said it's even better dipped in mayonnaise~! So I tried it, and it really did tone down the spice while making everything softer — genuinely delicious!

I tried it once it had boiled and reduced down to just the right point~! The broth was rich and so delicious! Sweet and spicy in a way that kept pulling me back for more~

It was really, really good~! The tofu was great, and the enoki mushroom was absolutely amazing! The texture and the sauce went perfectly together! The rice cake was delicious too!! Chewy and great!

The meat was so tender it melted in my mouth. The sweet-spicy sauce had soaked all the way into the meat, and it was seriously impressive! The tender texture combined with the rich broth made it perfect as a hearty meal too!! Also a great pick as a drinking snack!

Finishing with ramyeon noodles and fried rice
We also added ramyeon noodles~! I really recommend you add ramyeon noodles without fail~ Springy noodles soaked in the sweet-spicy sauce were the best of the best! So delicious~

The fried rice was satisfying too! They finished things off with braised-ribs fried rice, the true dessert and essential last course for Koreans~! Fried rice made by pressing the leftover sauce with plenty of nutty sesame oil and roasted seaweed flakes on the griddle was the perfect finish! If you come here, I highly, highly recommend you don't skip it~
