I actually prefer thin pork belly over thick, and among thin cuts, I love frozen pork belly (naengsam)! I heard there was a delicious frozen pork belly spot near Seongshin Women's University, so I went straight over. Turns out it's a famous place that even appeared on Running Man! What comes with the minari and 13 side dishes at Jangheungjip?

A spread of 13 side dishes served alongside the meat

A lot of people care just as much about the side dishes as the meat itself, right? Jangheungjip Seongshin Women's University branch serves fresh Cheongdo minari (water dropwort), 13 side dishes, domestic aged napa cabbage kimchi, and various banchan that go well with frozen pork belly.

Part of the fun of eating naengsam is pairing it with a bit of this and that side dish, so I felt this full-spread setup suited it well. You can focus on the meat while dipping into kimchi and various side dishes in between, which made for a more varied meal than sticking to just one combination.

Grilling chadolbagi and frozen pork belly your way

From naengsam to frozen pork neck to chadolbagi, however you like it

The signature menu items are frozen pork belly and frozen pork neck, and there's also a two-plus grade chadolbagi (beef brisket) and an assorted platter. If you're visiting with a group, ordering the assorted platter to try several cuts together seems like a good idea, and if you already know what you want, you can order pork belly or pork neck specifically.

Spicy chadol doenjang stew with frozen pork belly

They also brought out a chadol doenjang stew (soybean paste stew with brisket). It's got a really spicy kick! It stuck with me so much that I made the same thing at home the next day haha.

Doesn't it look packed with ingredients? I love it when a big spoonful scoops up this much stuff!

Next up is today's star, the naengsam. With a sprinkle of pepper it gets so savory and delicious that I couldn't stop eating. It's the kind of naengsam that tastes great no matter what you wrap it with 🩵

There's also a good variety of meal options to round things off after the meat. From minari fried rice to spam soy sauce egg rice, kimchi noodle soup, and chadol doenjang rice soup, there are plenty of choices to finish the meal alongside the meat.
