Sadang lunch: kaisendon and cream cheese-wrapped dried persimmon

In short

Bunko Dining Sadang is a Japanese dining restaurant on the 2nd floor near Sadang Station in Seocho, Seoul, serving lunch dishes like hitsumabushi and kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) by day and a relaxed drinking atmosphere by night. The writer ordered hitsumabushi and kaisendon for lunch with a side of cream cheese-wrapped dried persimmon, and the persimmon side ended up being the most memorable dish of the visit. With its laid-back atmosphere, it's a solid pick for a blind date or a catch-up with friends.

Today I visited Bunko Dining near Sadang Station! I went looking for a place in Sadang where I could eat well and also enjoy the atmosphere, and I ended up really liking it — the food was tasty and the vibe was great too haha.

Bunko Dining is a nice spot for a drink in the evening, but they also serve proper meal menus at lunch, so it works well as a lunch spot too! If you're looking for a good lunch place near Sadang, this could be one to keep in mind.

The atmosphere — good for a blind date or a friends' gathering?

Walking in, I liked that the space had a real sense of atmosphere overall! It didn't feel like a quick in-and-out meal spot — more like somewhere to sit back and chat, which made me think it could work well as a spot for a blind date in Sadang haha.

It's a nice place to catch up with friends over a meal, and just as good in the evening for a drink and conversation! So if you're looking for a place to meet up with close friends after a while apart, this could be a good option too🤍

Menu and what we ordered

Here's what the menu looks like! 👀

We visited for lunch and ordered hitsumabushi (grilled eel rice bowl) and kaisendon from the lunch menu! There was also a special kaisendon, and apparently the difference from the regular one is whether it includes uni (sea urchin). I can't eat uni, so I just went with the regular kaisendon ツ If you love uni, the special might be worth trying🤍

Hitsumabushi

I tried the hitsumabushi first! The eel rice bowl was great, as expected — the eel and the sweet sauce paired really well together🤤 The sauce had onion mixed in too, and it went surprisingly well with the eel and rice together! Eating the eel and rice together was filling, making it a perfect lunch.

Kaisendon

And I also ordered the kaisendon! When I think of kaisendon, I usually picture something you mix up like hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl), so it was surprising to see one served this neatly arranged! 👀 It was colorful and pretty just to look at haha. Eating the sashimi with the rice together turned out to be tastier than I expected🤍 Even without the uni, I really enjoyed the regular kaisendon! ෆ•͈ ·̫ •͈ෆ

How to finish it off like ochazuke

For both dishes, there's also a way to enjoy them at the end like ochazuke (green tea rice) — you leave a little rice at the bottom for it! I'd actually never had ochazuke before, so I was looking forward to it… but personally, I liked just eating the rice plain better haha. Probably because I'm not used to ochazuke! If you're a fan of ochazuke, it might be worth trying this different way of eating it at the end ♥

Colorfully plated kaisendon

The salad that came with the meal was also good! 🥗 Eating just the main dish the whole time can get a little heavy, so having the salad in between was a refreshing touch haha.

The most memorable dish: cream cheese-wrapped dried persimmon

And the dish I genuinely enjoyed the most was something else entirely… the cream cheese-wrapped dried persimmon is seriously the real deal ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ 🤍 The sweetness of the dried persimmon combined with the cream cheese made for such a great pairing! Sweet, but with the soft richness of the cream cheese coming through too — the kind of flavor where you eat one and immediately reach for another. Honestly, out of everything I had that day, this was the most memorable! It's a dish I'd want to order again next time🤤 If you're visiting for a blind date or a get-together with friends in Sadang, I'd definitely recommend this as a side dish haha.

Wrap-up

Overall, Bunko Dining was satisfying — good food and a good atmosphere! At lunch, you can eat a solid, filling meal with dishes like hitsumabushi or kaisendon, and in the evening, it's a nice spot for a relaxed drink, so it's quite versatile haha.

So it should work well both for anyone looking for a good lunch spot near Sadang, and for anyone looking for a nice-atmosphere place for a blind date in Sadang. And if you're specifically after a spot to catch up with close friends over good food, I'd recommend it too🤍 Personally, the cream cheese-wrapped dried persimmon was the most memorable for me, and the hitsumabushi and kaisendon were both delicious as well! If you're looking for a good-atmosphere place in Sadang, I'd recommend Bunko Dining☺️
