In short
Bunko Dining Sadang is a Japanese restaurant and izakaya on the 2nd floor of the Yoajeong building on Bangbaecheon-ro 4an-gil, near Sadang Station in Seocho, Seoul. At lunch the writer ordered the premium hitsumabushi set (grilled eel over rice, 58,000 won), which piles one and a half eels over the rice, and the special kaisendon set (seafood rice bowl, 36,000 won) topped with salmon roe and sea urchin. This is Siyomi :-) I visited Bunko Dining, a restaurant and izakaya with great vibes near Sadang Station that's perfect for a date, lunch, or even an engagement gathering!

Bunko Dining is already pretty well known in Sadang as an atmospheric izakaya! This time I visited for lunch~

Where is Bunko Dining Sadang and how do you find the entrance?
Bunko Dining Sadang is on the 2nd floor above Yoajeong. There's a menu board on the 1st floor too, so check it out before heading up :)
The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, but there's actually a waiting space between the 1st and 2nd floors. They do have a waiting area!
Once you go up to the 2nd floor~ there's no sign, but just go through this! black door!!

Inside Bunko Dining Sadang: mood and bar seats for solo diners
The inside of Bunko Dining Sadang was really clean and had such a nice atmosphere.

The space was spacious with bar seating too, and even though the restaurant is on the larger side, the tables were spaced out generously, which I liked.

What we ordered: premium hitsumabushi set and special kaisendon set
Click on the menu photos to zoom in :) I ordered the premium hitsumabushi set + special kaisendon set!

Everything comes out as a neat set so you can eat cleanly! It seems fine for solo dining too~ actually there were quite a few people eating solo at the bar seats!
Special kaisendon set (36,000 won): what comes with it
The special kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) — a Tokyo-style kaisendon piled high with finely diced tuna and seafood. Enjoy it with sea bream broth.

There was a basic and a special option, and we went with the special!

Isn't the presentation so pretty!? You can see salmon roe and sea urchin too!!
How to eat the kaisendon at Bunko Dining Sadang
The staff explained how to eat it while serving — the soy sauce that comes with it isn't too salty, so instead of pouring it all in and mixing, you're supposed to pour just enough over the rice and eat it that way!
After enjoying the kaisendon lightly dressed in soy sauce, they recommended finishing it off as ochazuke (rice in savory broth) with sea bream broth! The white bowl on the right is the soy sauce, and the long one is the ochazuke! There was also miso soup that came alongside it!

Two pieces of sashimi came along with it, plus ginger and pickled radish for cleansing your palate.

The salad and dessert — cream cheese-wrapped dried persimmon — plus fried shrimp made for a great lineup!! Here's the kaisendon soaked in soy sauce :)

Special kaisendon set (₩36,000)

Premium hitsumabushi set (58,000 won): one and a half eels over rice
The premium hitsumabushi — a generous Japanese-style grilled eel rice bowl topped with a serving and a half of eel. Enjoy the eel's flavor to the fullest.

The basic hitsumabushi comes with one whole eel, and the premium with one and a half — we wanted to eat a lot so we ordered the one and a half! And the eel filled the whole row, piled all the way up on top!!

Wasabi, perilla leaves, chives, and seaweed to eat alongside! Everything else was the same as the kaisendon set!

The eel was really thick and well seasoned, so it was incredibly delicious!

The rice underneath was lightly seasoned too, so eating rice with a piece of eel and just a touch of wasabi was so tasty~!?

Finishing with sea bream broth ochazuke
I made ochazuke with rice, eel, and sea bream broth, and it was warm and just so delicious. The sea bream broth itself is incredibly tasty!! They have sea bream noodles on the menu too, and now I'm curious about that flavor!!
Premium hitsumabushi set (₩58,000)
The set comes out so neatly arranged that it makes for such a pleasant, clean meal, you know?~

Which gatherings suit Bunko Dining Sadang?
The presentation is so good that it would be great for an engagement gathering or a blind date too! You can eat in a clean, nicely atmospheric setting :) Also great for a date spot!!

Thick hitsumabushi eel and a kaisendon piled high. Given the price point, the quality is on the higher end too!!! An izakaya at night and a clean lunch set spot during the day — that was Bunko Dining Sadang.
