Gangnam dessert café with fig pie and big seating: Upper and Under

A spacious dessert café near Sinnonhyeon Station

After lunch at Daylit, we were wondering which café to go to when we decided on “Upper and Under,” which was on Sdeoeonni’s saved list. It’s a five-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station, so the location is super convenient.

The exterior was full of atmosphere even before we stepped inside🌿 The brick and green plants together made it feel like a little European café. (But it’s actually a freaking huge café lol)

The second floor is spacious and has lots of tables, but there are also that many customers, so claim a table as soon as you arrive lol. The warm sunlight and relaxed vibe make it a nice place with friends, a partner, or really anyone—and even if you come solo, I think you could have a leisurely, happy time. Oh, I’d recommend it for a first date too!

There are terrace seats too, which will be nice to use now that the weather is warming up.

For the event, you can get one financier on the house when you write a receipt review. But it’s only for the first 10 groups each day... With this many customers, it’ll probably be gone by morning lol

The drinks and desserts we ordered

Our stars arrived just five minutes after ordering! Sdeoeonni and Sunja won rock-paper-scissors, so they got to bring them over lol

Latte ₩7,000 — Sdeoeonni’s

Pistachio ₩8,000 — Sunja’s

Americano ₩6,500 — mine (+ decaf ₩500) First off, I liked that it wasn’t a small serving. It was nutty rather than acidic, so I drank it down refreshingly with no trouble🌊 Iced Americanos really are best with sweet desserts🧊

Fig pie ₩8,300 Chocolate banana pie ₩8,000 Matcha canelé ₩4,500 There were so many appetizing desserts that it was hard to choose. We disagreed so intensely that we decided to pick one thing each lol. Naturally, my pick was the chocolate banana pie🍫🍌 I can’t give up chocolate...

The nutty texture of the fig pie

Figs are in season right now, so we can enjoy them to the fullest🍑 Inside was something like Joripong cereal-like nuts? Whatever it was, it was nutty with a great texture, and that was really the key. The cream + Joripong seed(?) + fig trio was so good.

Chocolate banana pie and matcha canelé

How are you supposed to resist the “chocolate + banana” combo.... The chocolate coating on the outside was kind of like a waxy coating lol. The fluffy cream inside hit the spot for a sugar boost.

Our tiny, precious matcha canelé.. It was crisp outside and soft inside, with that distinctive slightly burnt canelé flavor(?)—excellent. Upper and Under is definitely a baked-goods gem.

Nothing was lacking at Upper and Under, from the drinks to the desserts. In particular, there are so many desserts that I highly recommend this café to people like me who take desserts seriously! Would revisit ⭕️
