Back at Horanggul Bangi Branch after two years

I remembered having a delicious dinner at Horanggul Bangi Branch (호랑이굴 방이점), a popular spot in Bangi-dong’s food alley, two winters ago. I liked it enough to want to return, and after wondering when to go, I finally visited again while I was in Jamsil.

How to park or get there by public transit

There is parking right beside Horanggul Bangi Branch, a Japanese-style dining spot for dates in Songridan-gil, but the space is quite limited. You will need to use the paid Songpa-gu Office Parking Lot or Seobong Building parking lot instead; parking costs ₩4,000 per hour. A bus stop or subway station is within a 10-minute walk, so I recommend taking public transit.

A spacious Japanese pub-like setting for dates and group dinners

Located near Jamsil Lotte Tower, Horanggul Bangi Branch was more spacious than I expected, making it a good choice when looking for a group dinner venue in Bangi-dong. The interior, styled like a Japanese pub, really stood out. With its warm, cozy wood tones, it was easy to see why so many couples came here for dates.

I visited outside peak hours, so I was able to sit in a spot with a comfy sofa chair.

Gopchang jeongol ordered mild

I considered ordering daechang jeongol, or beef large-intestine hot pot, but ordered the gopchang jeongol (beef intestine hot pot) again because I had enjoyed it so much on my last visit. It needed to boil at the table for about nine minutes, and the staff explained how to eat it and what to watch out for, so it seemed like a good place even for first-time gopchang jeongol eaters.

You can choose the spice level for Horanggul’s gopchang jeongol. I ordered it mild for my son, and ordered a Coca-Cola Zero instead of alcohol so I could still enjoy the atmosphere.. haha

Horanggul gopchang jeongol (2 servings): ₩33,800

When the timer goes off, a staff member comes over and mixes the seasoning well. Because extra broth is not available, anyone planning to add noodles or other extras can do so after eating about half of it.

Horanggul’s gopchang jeongol comes with chewy Australian beef intestines and seven kinds of vegetables filling the earthenware pot, creating a deep, rich-tasting hot pot.

Tender vegetables I ate more of than the gopchang

There was enough gopchang, tofu, and fish cake for two adults, but the real highlight of Horanggul’s gopchang jeongol was the vegetables. They were cooked so tenderly and were so delicious that even I, someone with very picky eating habits, absolutely devoured the vegetables here.

Steamed rice must be ordered separately, but they fill the rice bowl right up, so it is a must for rice lovers.

Jjambbong noodles I could not skip, even when full

I was already very full from the gopchang and vegetables, but after coming back to Horanggul for the first time in ages, there was no way I could skip adding jjambbong noodles. They gave such a generous ₩4,000 portion that I wondered whether I would need to take it home.. haha The noodles were chewy, the seasoning had soaked in beautifully, and it was so delicious,, I keep thinking about them.

I could understand why there is a wait at Horanggul Bangi Branch, a pub in Bangi-dong’s food alley. Delivery and takeout are also available, so you can enjoy the delicious hot pot at home.
