Suyeong sashimi restaurant for fish roe rice: Geumrang Hoetjip

In short

Geumrang Hoetjip Gwangalli Main Branch is a sashimi restaurant in Suyeong, Busan, near Gwangalli Waterfront Park. Dad and I reserved the 60,000-won-per-person Subyeon Hansang course and ate everything from mulhoe to grilled seafood, assorted sashimi, maeuntang, and albap. Verdict: a generous choice for a seafood course with a Gwangan Bridge view.

This is Geumrang Hoetjip Gwangalli Main Branch, a sashimi restaurant where I had such a satisfying meal in Gwangalli ❗

Geumrang Hoetjip is near Gwangalli Waterfront Park, so it was easy to find. I’d remembered it because its logo was so cute every time I passed by, and I finally got to visit 🙌

If you’re driving, Suyeong Waterfront Park Public Parking Lot is right in front, so parking is easy :) You can get 2 hours of parking support when using that lot, so be sure to register your parking before you leave 🤗

Once we got up to the sixth floor, I liked that the prices were posted right at the entrance. There were plenty of menu choices, from good-value lunch specials to courses at different price points and with different combinations, which was great too :) Plus, you can get small-plate sashimi refills, so if you love sashimi, this is absolutely the place for you 🙋♀️

The walls were covered in signatures... 😲 I spotted them as we were leaving, so I didn’t get to look at them properly hahaha

The dining hall was spacious and pleasant! Along with the large hall, there are private rooms too, so it seemed like a good spot for group dinners, formal family meetings, and all kinds of events 👍

Gwangan Bridge view and a Subyeon Hansang reservation

And the Gwangan Bridge view right in front of us... 💗 The weather was lovely that day, so the view was so pretty :) Oh, and for reference, I reserved the Subyeon Hansang (₩60,000 per person) for two in advance ❗

Maybe because we had reserved ahead, they brought out the dishes one by one right away. Just to tell you in advance: there were so many parts to this course that we couldn’t even get a sashimi refill... 😥 I came determined to get one after promising myself I absolutely would right up until the day before, but the defeated person = me.

A seafood course starting with mulhoe

First came mulhoe (cold raw-fish soup) and the seafood course ❗ Everything was fresh and so delicious, with absolutely no fishy taste 👍

There was a great variety, including gaebul (spoon worm), sea cucumber, sea squirt, and tako wasabi. The gaebul and sea cucumber in particular had such a nice crunchy texture 😋

Haha... looking at these photos makes me want to eat it again... 💗

They served buckwheat noodles with the mulhoe here, and they were so good too. Mulhoe that comes in the middle of a course often leaves me wanting more, but Geumrang Hoetjip was delicious without any of that disappointment.

Next came grilled abalone, grilled scallops, live octopus, and more. Everything was delicious—there wasn’t a single item that fell short :)

By this point, Dad and I had come to one conclusion: the chef here definitely has a skilled hand hahaha 👍

Kimchi pancake, salmon salad, and steamed egg

Assorted sashimi, konowata, and a table that kept coming

Kimchi pancake, salmon salad, and steamed egg came too. The steamed egg was also nice to have later with the maeuntang (spicy fish stew), haha.

And then the real star of the day, the assorted sashimi, arrived ❗

There were lots of different kinds of fish, and the sashimi was so good ㅠㅠㅠㅠ The moment I took a bite, I thought, “Wow, I absolutely have to get a refill.” It still lingers as a regret that I ultimately left without one... but even if I went again now, I don’t think the two of us could manage a sashimi refill 😅

They gave us one konowata (salted sea cucumber entrails) each too. It was delicious dipped with sashimi, but I liked eating it on its own as well haha.

Finishing with maeuntang and albap

Maeuntang came out to finish the meal. There was quite a lot of it too, so the two of us couldn’t finish it and left a little behind ㅠㅠ

The maeuntang was pleasantly spicy and refreshing—one of those stews that anyone could enjoy without strong likes or dislikes :)

And the albap (fish roe rice) here is so delicious... It honestly felt like there was more flying fish roe than rice. Scrape up the scorched rice at the end, and it’s simply perfection... 💗

The side dishes served with the maeuntang were quite unusual. Instead of the sides I had expected, there was fish coated in cream sauce and fried corn, and they were real specialties 👍 I thought cream sauce and fish wouldn’t go together, but they actually paired surprisingly well haha.

If you’re looking for a great restaurant with a full view of Gwangan Bridge and a well-rounded course, I totally recommend this place 🙌
