At Midam Kitchen (미담키친), a hanok Italian restaurant on Gyeongju’s Hwangridan-gil, I had arugula tomato pizza and beef brisket oil pasta. The hanok building and carefully tended garden caught my eye first, while the spacious table spacing and kind service stayed with me during the meal.

What are the hanok exterior and garden like?

While walking along Hwangridan-gil, I noticed the hanok exterior. It was different from what I expected of an Italian restaurant, and I became curious about having pizza and pasta in a hanok setting.

As I entered, I saw green grass and a carefully maintained outdoor garden. The traditional hanok blended with a contemporary touch, so I found myself taking photos before the meal.

Is it comfortable for a meal with children?

The interior was neat and comfortable when I visited. Tables were well spaced, high chairs were available, and even well after lunch, there were families dining with children. The restroom was also inside the restaurant, which was convenient.

The owner and staff were warmly attentive from the time I entered until I left, so I felt comfortable throughout my visit. I thought it would be suitable for a meal with parents or a visit with children.

What did I order?

Along with pasta and pizza, there were risotto, salads, and pork cutlets, giving plenty of choices. I ordered arugula tomato pizza and beef brisket oil pasta. The cutlery was kept in a neat holder.

At the time of my visit, there was also a promotion offering either cola or Terra beer for writing a photo review. The pizza and pasta arrived at the same time.

What did the arugula tomato pizza taste like?

The pizza was generously topped with large leaves of arugula. Its aroma came through clearly, while tomato and savory cheese paired with the chewy, lightly seasoned crust.

It tasted fresh rather than rich as I ate it. I usually enjoy pickled sides, so I liked that they brought plenty of jalapeños and pickled radish from the start.

How were the portion and flavor of the beef brisket oil pasta?

I chose the beef brisket oil pasta after reading several reviews. Tender, savory slices of beef brisket were piled on so generously that I could barely see the noodles, making it a filling dish.

The noodles had absorbed the savory flavor of garlic and oil, and I finished the dish feeling refreshed. It was a menu item I kept thinking about even after I got home.

How was it for a date or a meal with parents?

The hanok and garden made it enjoyable to look around before and after the meal. It was a place I would think of when wanting Italian food during a date on Hwangridan-gil.
