Weekday lunch pork neck at Galgol Yeontanjip, Gyodae Station Seocho
In short
Galgol Yeontanjip Seocho Gyodae Branch is a charcoal-grilled Korean BBQ restaurant near exit 6 of Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a Monday lunch visit, two servings of jar-aged jujulli pork neck at 15,900 won each came with doenjang jjigae, kimchi, scallion salad, and several sauces, and though the grill wasn't hot enough at first and the meat cooked slowly, the result still turned out fine. Next time, the yeontan bulbaek that nearly every other table was eating is the plan.

The exterior and atmosphere at Galgol Yeontanjip near Gyodae Station

I visited Galgol Yeontanjip near Gyodae Station on a Monday afternoon for lunch meat. Since I do intermittent fasting on weekends, I need to eat properly on weekdays — meat included.

Several groups were already eating inside. Looks like office workers from nearby come in groups.

Today's order: two servings of jujulli teukmoksal
Jujulli teukmoksal 15,900 won x2, plus doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). Looking around, every table had yeontan bulbaek on the grill — probably the lunch signature dish here. But we decided to go with pork neck instead.
Kimchi came out first.

A bowl of scallion salad followed.
The pork neck arrives in individual jars, one serving each — jar-aged special pork neck. The color of the meat looks great.

Several sauces come along too, though for pork neck, salt alone is enough.

What happens when the grill isn't hot enough
No matter how much you're told to wait for the grill to heat up, someone always puts the meat on anyway.

For the best result, meat should be cooked fast on a properly heated grill.

Well, it's already on there, so there's no point complaining further.

Everyone! When grilling meat, please wait until the grill is fully heated before putting the meat on.
Since the grill wasn't fully heated, the meat cooked a bit slower and unevenly. There's a good reason people say to wait until the grill is hot.

Still, it wasn't a total disaster, which is a relief.

Once it's cooked enough, just cut it into bite-sized pieces to finish it off.

No need to flip it too often.

It's turning golden brown and looking delicious.

Even the same cut of meat can taste different depending on who grills it.

Once fully cooked, move it aside so it doesn't burn.

There were some bumps along the way, but it all ended on a warm note! Today's lesson: to enjoy good meat properly, always wait for the grill to fully heat up before putting it on.
Verdict — yeontan bulbaek next time
We had pork neck, but I noticed most other tables were eating yeontan bulbaek. Next visit, I'll have to try that. And for an evening visit, chicken feet with a shot of soju sounds pretty good too.
※ Please note that the restaurant may get busier after this post goes up.
