Korean BBQ dinner with pregnant friend, private room: Huiyeol Seocho

Last time I visited, I loved the healthy spread so much that I came back to Huiyeol with my pregnant friend this time. From the side dishes to the hotpot rice to the meat, the whole lineup is excellent — a great Seocho restaurant for treating someone special.

Inside Huiyeol Seocho Gyodae Branch — both rooms and hall

Given the neighborhood, Seocho and Gyodae have quite a few room-style restaurants, and Huiyeol Seocho Gyodae Branch has both private rooms and hall seating.

The rooms are divided by partitions, so they can be split up or combined as needed. They said it can seat up to 24 people, so ask the restaurant directly for group bookings. Each room also has coat hangers, so even a winter coat isn't a problem.

The hall space is also spacious, and it's always packed at lunchtime. I came for dinner this time, so it was relatively quiet.

They also have baby chairs, so it's a great Seocho-dong restaurant to bring kids to 👶🏻

Menu and the grilling set

I visited for dinner with one other person and ordered the grilling set. For ₩99,000, it comes with 200g of Korean beef flower short rib, geumtae (golden eye snapper) hotpot rice, doenjang stew, and assorted side dishes.

Corkage free for up to 2 bottles

🍶 The drink selection was especially varied — spirits, highballs, makgeolli, wine, and more — and corkage is free for up to 2 bottles. For group gatherings or work dinners, bring 2 bottles corkage-free and order any extras from Huiyeol's own drinks menu.

The food — six side dishes to Korean beef flower short rib

Just the six house-made side dishes and the doenjang stew alone would be enough for a full bowl of rice.

Today's main dish. It's not just any short rib — it's Korean beef flower short rib, and it's really tender. Since it's fresh meat, it's served rare and you grill it to your liking on the hot stone plate. I had mine medium, and my pregnant friend had hers medium-well.

Chungju apple fermented liquor 'Saranghaljae' (When in Love)

I tried one of Huiyeol's many drinks. Saranghaljae... the name is a bit embarrassing (?), but it's a fermented liquor made with Chungju apples, which are trending right now. It went really well with the Korean food.

The Korean beef flower short rib is basically seasoned with salt and pepper already, but it went really well paired with pickled chili peppers.

Geumtae hotpot rice and nurungji

The hotpot rice came topped with actual geumtae (golden eye snapper). Last time too, when I had the lunch set, I paid extra to switch to the geumtae hotpot rice.

The savory, salty geumtae went really well with the fluffy hotpot rice.

And what completes hotpot rice? Nurungji (scorched rice tea), of course. They give you an insulated container for the pot — pour in hot water and close the lid.

Right around when the meal is winding down, stir it well and drink the nurungji :) It settles your stomach and fills you up, so you really shouldn't skip it.

Huiyeol even takes care of dessert, like a mom would. The warmth of Korean home-style food really does fill up your heart too.
