Today I visited Hôtel de Couture, a cute, exotic-feeling brunch café and wine bar tucked into an alley in Yeonnam-dong near Hongik University Station in Mapo-gu! I had high expectations even before going, since the pretty interior and delicious-looking dishes had already generated so much buzz. When I actually visited, the cozy, atmospheric space was exactly my thing. Every dish was plated so beautifully and appetizingly that I lost count of how many photos I took.

Weekend lunch: how long was the walk-in wait?
Hôtel de Couture opens at 11:00, and I arrived around 11:30 for Sunday lunch. I checked Naver reservations in advance, but the whole month was already fully booked, so with tears in my eyes I decided to try for walk-in waiting instead...

Only 30 minutes after opening, which felt like a decent opening run, the waiting line was already enormous. The restaurant is on the second floor, so there was not only a line stretching outside but also a long queue continuing up the indoor stairs.

As expected of a popular brunch spot in Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong, I almost got into trouble by being even a little late. My anticipation kept growing as I looked over the vintage exterior while waiting. What was especially interesting was that the people in front of and behind me were all Japanese tourists. If people visiting Korea are willing to wait outside under the blazing sun, it must already be a famous restaurant among international visitors too, right?
Vintage interiors like a European manor

After about 40 minutes of waiting, I finally entered, and the interior was truly a space that made me gasp. From framed classic paintings on the walls and warm-toned lighting to a poster reading “HAVE A GGOODD DAY,” every corner had clearly received attention.

Especially the “ENJOY YOUR LIFE HOTEL DE GGOODD” plate! When a restaurant has tableware that feels uniquely its own like this, it makes me trust it even more. It felt like the owner really cares? The plants, wine bottles, and other props throughout the space came together to make me feel as if I were in a grand European manor hotel. The restaurant’s romantic, vintage mood won me over so completely that the wait did not feel like a waste at all.
Hôtel de Couture’s signature dishes
Now it was time for the most important part: choosing our food.

The three popular signature dishes were carrot duck aglio e olio pasta, pea basil shrimp cream pasta, and honeycomb seasonal-fruit French toast. There were plenty of other delicious Western-style dishes too: risotto, steak, eggs in hell (shakshuka), salads, beer, and house wine... It is great for brunch, but also perfect for a daytime drink with wine or beer and a little atmosphere—definitely somewhere I recommend for a date in Mapo-gu~
Mortadella lemon butter pasta and honey jambon toast
- Mortadella lemon butter pasta ₩17,000
- Honey jambon cream French toast ₩14,000
- Iced Americano ₩4,000
- Orange juice ₩6,000
- Total ₩41,000
After much deliberation, we chose the mortadella lemon butter pasta, honey jambon cream French toast, an iced Americano, and orange juice.

Mortadella lemon butter pasta

First of all, the whole grilled lemon sitting on top of the pasta was just so cute to look at.

Its combination with the salty mortadella ham was so appealing. The fresh lemon flavor and rich butter sauce came together beautifully, so it never became cloying and I kept reaching for more.

Honey jambon cream French toast
And then there was the honey jambon cream French toast, which was even better than expected..! The thick toast arrived beautifully golden-brown, with an appearance that made a statement from the start. The outside was crisp and caramelized, while the inside was not merely soaked but thoroughly saturated with honey cream—it melted in your mouth after just one bite. It was not simply sweet either; the salty jambon came through as you chewed, making it the textbook sweet-and-savory brunch taste,,

It was the most refined French toast I have ever had. Fresh arugula and cherry tomatoes came alongside it, neatly cutting through what could otherwise have become a rich, greasy flavor. I found the number-one brunch in Hongdae ~

With a cool, clean Americano and orange juice on the side, our perfect brunch spread was complete, you know?
Dessert and the reservation points event

Just as we were about to leave after a filling meal, they gave us a perfect little palate-cleansing dessert: chocolate-flavored mini oatmeal, a snack that was easy to pop into one bite! It let us finish on a happy note. From the space and food to the small perks and service, Hôtel de Couture near Hongik University Station in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu was perfect. It is a truly excellent restaurant I want to revisit again.
