Today I'm sharing my review of Yahwa Honsul Bar, an Itaewon favorite! I've packed in a bunch of tips, so take a look before you visit ><

A vibe that never feels awkward, even solo

I'd been hearing lately that solo drinking bars are surprisingly fun, so I checked out Yahwa Honsul Bar in Itaewon myself! I worried going to a bar alone might feel awkward, but since this place is literally named a solo drinking bar, plenty of people come by themselves, and the bar-table setup made it easier to walk in than I expected.

Since it's tucked in an Itaewon alley, the vibe felt distinctly Itaewon. The lighting is soft and the space cozy, giving it a calmer feel for a drink than a loud, typical bar.

Walking in, I found a hutgae (Japanese raisin tree) stick set out at every seat!! And one of the reasons Yahwa was so fun was that it's not just a space to drink alone in silence.

Truffle potato chips and the cocktail menu

For a snack we ordered the truffle potato chips! They were ₩5,000. Really salty with a strong truffle aroma — so, so good!! There's a wide range of drinks too, from cocktails to highballs to whiskey, so you can pick based on your taste.

The cocktail names on the menu were all so evocative it was fun just to browse — signature cocktails like Dohwa and Byeoljineun Bam (The Night the Stars Fall) looked gorgeous too, great for setting the mood while you sip. With options ranging from sweet, fruity drinks to stronger stuff, it seemed like a great spot for a lightweight drinker and a heavy drinker to go together and each order to their taste.

I think what we ordered was a Jun Bug and an Apple Martini!! The Apple Martini was totally refreshing and delicious, and I liked that it wasn't too strong haha.

Table question cards, darts, and chatting with the table next door

The table had various questions and games set up, so even on a first visit, conversation started naturally. I loved that coming alone didn't mean staring at your phone the whole time haha.

But the best part was how naturally you could end up chatting with the people at the next table! Strangers at first, but with a drink in hand and a game or question as an icebreaker, you end up easily talking to people you'd never normally cross paths with.

There was also a darts corner nearby, and plenty of other things to do, which was great!!

Good for going alone, and good with friends too

It'd be fun to visit with friends, but it also seemed like a great option for a day when you actually want to go alone and meet new people!! This time we became close with some unnies we'd just met and had a blast hearing all sorts of stories haha. Sometimes you just want to head out to Itaewon by yourself for a good drink without any plans with friends! On those days, a too-quiet bar feels dull, and a regular bar can feel like too much to walk into alone — Yahwa Honsul Bar sits right in the middle, which I really liked.

It never feels awkward going alone, you can chat with others if you want, or just sip your own drink slowly and leave — that's the freedom of the place! I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good-vibe bar in Itaewon or wanting to try drinking solo in a new way.
