Rooftop bar in Haebangchon with Namsan Tower views: Cove Bar

In short

Cove Bar is a rooftop cocktail bar on the 3rd floor of a building near Sinheung Market in Haebangchon, Seoul, with views of Namsan Tower. Visiting right at weekend opening time, I sat outdoors and had two signature cocktails, the Citrus Wave and the TWG Sour, while the tower and sky changed color overhead — a genuinely relaxing date. Most of the good outdoor seats are reserved, so booking ahead is essential.

Cove Bar is a moody, atmospheric cocktail bar on the 3rd floor of a building near Sinheung Market in Haebangchon. Being so close to Namsan Tower, it really captures that cozy-yet-stylish night view feeling that's unique to this neighborhood.

The best rooftop spots are reserved — book ahead

I showed up 10 minutes before weekend opening, and since the staff were still getting ready to open, I waited on the stairs before I could go in.

Outdoor rooftop tables marked as reserved seating

Once I got there, I realized most of the great open-air seats are reserved. If you want to sit at one of those prime rooftop spots with the full Namsan view, I really recommend booking ahead before you visit.

QR ordering and a little water-glass incident

You order conveniently through the QR code set up at your table, and you pay when you leave. Once seated, they give you crackers and cold water as a default.

Complimentary crackers and water served at the table

I came to enjoy the mood, but there was a small mishap. One of the water glasses they gave us had a chip about the size of a fingernail right where you'd put your mouth! My husband didn't notice and drank from that side — I was so startled, but thankfully he wasn't hurt at all. It taught me to always check the state of a glass before drinking from it, wherever I go... I told a staff member and they brought us a fresh glass right away.

The only non-alcoholic option is lemonade

Since I'm trying to get pregnant, I felt like I should have something non-alcoholic, so I paused the QR order and went inside to ask a staff member. I asked, "Could I request a non-alcoholic drink outside of the QR menu?" and was told the only non-alcoholic option was lemonade. When I told my husband, he suggested we just order alcoholic drinks and take a light taste before heading out, so after some thought we ordered two signature cocktails! 🍸

When the cocktails arrived, they were set down on the table with no explanation, so I looked things up smartly with AI whenever I was curious! Usually at a cocktail bar it's easy to chat with staff, but since we were seated at an open-air outdoor table, we solved our curiosity with AI instead.

Signature cocktail: Citrus Wave

Citrus Wave

The lemon slice on top of the cocktail turned out to be decoration, not something you're meant to eat. I love lemon and wanted to eat it, but I gave it up to the cocktail instead haha. At 11% ABV, it's a light drink that's perfect for a mood reset.

The bitterness of the grapefruit, the fresh acidity of the orange and lemon, and the sweetness of the lychee strike a perfect balance. From the very first sip, it has this refreshing quality that leaves your whole mouth feeling cool and moist!

Two signature cocktails on the table

Both drinks were so refreshing that they put me in a good mood the whole time I was drinking them! We only got a small taste, but it felt like all the stress melted away, refreshingly.

TWG Sour

The soft sweetness of vanilla, the subtle scent of TWG tea, and a fresh lemon aroma all come together nicely.

The delicate foam layer on top gives it a creamy, smooth finish going down.

TWG Sour served in a square wooden masu box

The TWG Sour glass is served inside that square wooden box — a 'masu' — the same kind used at izakayas when they pour sake to overflowing into a glass set inside the box. It's a nice touch since it adds a subtle woody scent as you drink. Since the square wooden masu had that wood feel to it, I made sure to put my mouth right at the corner and drink straight from it!

Wrapping up with the Namsan Tower night view

Sipping a drink while watching Namsan Tower and the pretty sky change moment by moment as time passed made for a perfectly healing date all on its own.
