Chuncheon sushi buffet weekday lunch with crab cream pasta: QooQoo

In short

QooQoo Chuncheon Branch is an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet on the basement floor of the CGV building near Toegye-dong and Seoksa-dong in Chuncheon, Gangwon. Arriving right at the weekday opening time of 11:30, the writer worked through sushi, smoked salmon, kebab meat grilled at the table, and seasonal dishes such as gamjatang (pork back-bone stew) fried rice, snow crab cream pasta and oysters on the half shell. Seats were roomy and turnover was fast enough that the cooked dishes tasted fresh, and QooQoo Chuncheon Branch is worth a return trip at dinner, when more ice cream flavors come out.

Where is QooQoo Chuncheon Branch?

QooQoo Chuncheon Branch is an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet on the basement floor of the CGV building at 80 Jiseok-ro, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do. A large chunk of Chuncheon's population lives around Toegye-dong and Seoksa-dong, and as far as I know, this is the only buffet of this kind nearby. That's right — QooQoo Chuncheon Branch!

Being in the basement of the CGV building gives it a great location too, which is probably why it's held its spot for over ten years now. (The taste holds up too, which I guess is how it's lasted this long..!)

Buffet hall filled with families

Looking around, most guests seemed to be families with kids. Plenty of baby chairs were set up, and there was a play room too.

Arriving at the 11:30 weekday opening

I walked in right at the weekday opening time of 11:30, and the place was already packed enough to show it does great business. But turnover seemed fast, so there was no wait.

What is on the buffet line?

Varied salad corner

There's a salad corner off to one side, and since this place draws all ages, the salads were quite varied. Unlike the usual bland buffet salads, these were actually good and came in many kinds.

Sushi and seafood dishes at QooQoo Chuncheon Branch

What really sets QooQoo Chuncheon Branch apart is the unlimited sushi, tasty and varied. From the famous California roll to sushi made with all kinds of fish, everything looked good. Whether it's sushi or hot dishes, new seasonal items keep rotating through, so even repeat visits don't feel boring!

Overall the sushi tasted less salty than I remembered, and it was delicious~! I also tried a range of seafood dishes — the smoked salmon sashimi had a distinct flavor that this salmon lover appreciated, and the octopus and shrimp were seasoned just right.

There were also plenty of grilled items, and the menu wasn't predictable at all — I wanted to try one of everything...!

Seasonal dishes: gamjatang fried rice and crab cream pasta

Among these, the memorable, not-so-obvious seasonal dishes were the potato-rib stew (gamjatang) fried rice, crab cream pasta, and oysters (seokhwa).

Kebab meat grilled at your table

Unlike before, the kebab meat is now grilled fresh on the spot, which I really liked. (Right next to it are tortillas and sauce to wrap it with.) Maybe because it's grilled fresh, it ranked in my top 3 meats I've had here.

Dessert and drink corner

The desserts were just as varied as the mains — enough to give you decision paralysis...!

There was everything from tea, drinks, and coffee to marble ice cream, soft-serve, waffles, and slushies.

Marble ice cream and soft-serve station

Weekday dinner and weekend prices are higher than weekday lunch, and this ice cream is one reason for that. (I understand some of the hot dishes differ too.)

Seats, service and family facilities

The seasoning overall was on the salty side in a good way, so I ate my fill (hahaha). The seating wasn't uncomfortable either — it was spacious enough that I didn't feel other guests around me, so I could eat at ease. The staff were kind too, so the whole meal felt comfortable.

With so many people coming through and turnover running high, the food stayed fairly fresh and tasty☺️

Affogato topped with marble ice cream

I love affogato — ice cream with espresso poured over it — so that's what I usually get for dessert, but when I brought it back I noticed marble ice cream too...! Now I'm curious about the ice cream selection that opens after 5pm, and since I hear the dinner dishes differ from lunch, I've got a curiosity building to come back for dinner next time😄👌

And that's how I had one delicious meal👌
