Now that the semester's started, there's real fun in grabbing something delicious after class, you know? This time I was craving tuna again, so I went to Maguro Tuna (마구로참치) in Huping-dong 🐟

Usually when you go eat tuna you just eat whatever cut without really knowing what it is, but here the chef came out himself and explained each cut one by one — loved that! And best of all, the Jin course we ordered comes with tuna refills, so anyone who loves tuna will be really satisfied! ⭐️

Private room by reservation: a good spot for drinks with friends

We had reserved so they set us up in a private room instead of the main hall, and being a tuna place, the mood was perfect for a drink or two!

Being a private room, the atmosphere was great for eating and drinking comfortably with friends, and since the course brings out a variety of dishes, it never felt like just eating one thing over and over — good for chatting slowly and enjoying the meal 💗 So I think this would be great for anyone looking for a Chuncheon sashimi restaurant/bar, or wanting a proper drink in the evening 🍶

What comes with the Jin course at Maguro Tuna?

We ordered the Jin course! Instead of just tuna appearing right away, various dishes came out one after another in sequence, so it was fun trying each thing 🙂↕️

And the part I remember most! After the tuna came out, the chef himself came over and explained each cut ☺️

Instead of just eating and wondering "what cut is this?", hearing the explanation for each one made it so much more fun — !! He even told us which cuts taste better dipped in sesame oil sauce versus soy sauce ⭐️

The Jin course isn't just tuna — it's a whole lineup of dishes coming out throughout the meal, which I loved! Eating tuna, then something else, then back to tuna — a slow-paced setup that also worked great as a drinking snack 🤭

Tuna alone can start to feel a bit rich if you keep eating it, but with other dishes coming out in between, I never got tired of it!! So beyond just a tuna spot, this would suit anyone looking for a course-meal restaurant in Huping-dong, Chuncheon 💗

Fin cut, plus seaweed and aged kimchi wraps

Personally I loved this fin cut — dipped in sesame oil sauce, it was seriously the best..💗💗

And you absolutely have to wrap it in seaweed. Seaweed + aged kimchi + tuna + (pickled radish or garlic scapes) — pure bliss.

I bet it would've been even better with some cheongyang chili peppers too..

And a tokkuri (sake flask) with an adorable little ojisan cup too 🐰

This is the otoro (fatty tuna belly) sushi we got complimentary… so insanely good I want more, ugh 🤤💦

And the amazing thing here is that tuna refills are available! Sometimes when you're eating tuna and it's so good you want a little more, being able to refill meant we could enjoy it without any regrets! Anyone who loves tuna will be extra satisfied by this ✨

Service and hospitality at Maguro Tuna

❗️Beyond the food, the staff were genuinely kind. From the start the service felt comfortable, and whenever we had questions they answered kindly, so there was no awkwardness through the whole meal. Between the chef coming out himself to explain, and the overall attentive care for guests, it all felt really thoughtful! Good food matters, but this kind of service made the whole meal so much more pleasant and enjoyable ☺️
