Daegu Korean restaurant with squid pork bibimbap: Banwoldang Bujasikdang

In short

Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a Korean restaurant in Jung-gu, Daegu, serving fire-grilled dishes and full Korean meal sets. I ordered the new fire-grilled Oje bokkeum with squid, pork, doenjang stew, and vegetable bibimbap for 14,000 won. Verdict: a filling, gently smoky meal with sweet-savory seasoning that goes beautifully with rice.

When I’m craving Korean food in Banwoldang, there’s a warm, comforting rice place I always go to: Banwoldang Bujasikdang (반월당부자식당), a fire-grilled stir-fry specialist. The smoky squid and pork are always so delicious, and afterward I feel comfortably full rather than weighed down—an absolutely perfect Korean lunch.

Ordering fire-grilled Oje bokkeum

As you’d expect from a fire-grilled stir-fry specialist, there were lots of fire-grilled options: the new fire-grilled Oje bokkeum, Buja seokgalbi, fire-grilled squid bokkeum, and fire-grilled pork bokkeum. They require an order for at least two people. I also loved that countryside cheongguk doenjang-jjigae is served with every menu item. There’s also a one-person cheongguk doenjang-jjigae and bibimbap set.

A hot-plate Oje bokkeum meal with cheongguk doenjang-jjigae

Oje bokkeum meal with doenjang-jjigae

After a short wait, the bubbling doenjang-jjigae arrived along with the Oje bokkeum, sizzling away on its hot plate. It came with three basic side dishes and two kinds of vegetables for mixing with rice. Just seeing this neatly laid-out full meal had me salivating already, haha. The flavors you know are the most dangerous, haha!

The subtle aroma of direct fire-grilling hit my nose the moment it arrived, and it was truly a work of art 🔥 The squid and pork were beautifully coated in red sauce, and the look alone made my mouth water. Just from the visuals, it was clearly going to be a rice thief!

Countryside cheongguk doenjang-jjigae

Another irresistible part was the hearty, savory countryside cheongguk doenjang-jjigae—it made the rice disappear so easily. It was generously filled with tofu, and its rich flavor was never muddy or heavy, so I kept reaching for more.

Crisp, sweet fried burdock root side dish

The house-made side dishes were delicious too, especially this fried burdock root. It was so crisp and sweet that I’d want to buy some to take home if they sold it!

The springy, chewy squid and the savory, juicy pork came together at once, making every bite wonderfully flavorful. It was delicious wrapped in vegetables, and just as heavenly placed right on top of rice. I loved getting to taste both together, and the generous Korean meal set made it feel like the day’s fatigue simply melted away. This is why I come to Banwoldang Bujasikdang, one of Jung-gu’s great restaurants, haha.

Vegetables and a bowl for bibimbap
A bite of Oje bokkeum bibimbap

Can you eat Oje bokkeum as bibimbap?

There was a bowl for bibimbap (mixed rice) and two kinds of vegetables, so I mixed everything together. The red sauce wasn’t just aggressively spicy—it carried a subtle smoky aroma and gentle sweetness. I piled it generously over rice and mixed it all up, and it was a true rice thief! I had such a varied, generous meal.

Final thoughts on this Banwoldang fire-grilled meal

Care went into every dish, and as a fire-grilled stir-fry specialist, Banwoldang Bujasikdang’s deeply smoky Oje bokkeum was outstanding. I happily cleared every last bite. If you want deeply flavored Korean food or properly fire-grilled stir-fry near Banwoldang, I highly recommend Banwoldang Bujasikdang.
