Daegu café with rich tomato soup and crisp toast bites: Dento

In short

Dento is a brunch café in Bongsan-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu, serving bite-size open sandwiches and tomato soup. The 12,000 won sandwich set was freshly toasted and crisp, while the 4,000 won tomato soup had both acidity and depth. Verdict: order the tomato soup alongside the sandwiches.

For anyone looking for a great brunch spot around Banwoldang, I went to Dento (덴토), which is already well known in Dongseong-ro 🤎

I’ll leave you with my review, starting with that hip exterior 💕

The bottom line: I expected the sandwiches to be soggy, but they toast them right away, so they were completely crisp. And why were the toppings bursting with so much flavor? The coffee and tomato soup passed the test too 🫧

Are the five open sandwiches crisp?

Five varieties of open sandwiches

There’s a reason this place especially stayed with me among Banwoldang brunch spots. Honestly, when I heard they were finger sandwiches, I thought they would be soggy. But when I tried them, they were so crisp that I was genuinely surprised!

Every topping was different from what I expected, too. My two favorites were the third from the left, with mushroom, broccoli, and tomato sauce, and the fourth, with scallop meat and cream. I loved that every ingredient on top had such a distinct, deep flavor! Like, this is tomato, this is broccoli—should I put it that way? Really, every single one was delicious!

They even provide disposable gloves, so they’re easy to eat!

Every ingredient really shines, right? I’m not usually much of a vegetable person, but these were delicious.

Coffee and tomato soup

Coffee cup and coaster

Aren’t the coffee cup and coaster so cute too? When you have sandwiches at this Bongsan-dong spot, definitely try the coffee with them ☕️ It’s rich and wonderfully aromatic.

Rich tomato soup

The tomato soup tastes as though the tomatoes have been properly simmered down. It uses lots of tomato, so I loved getting both acidity and a deep flavor. For me, this soup was even more memorable than the sandwiches.
