Gimpo gopchang restaurant with grilled-to-order mixed platter: Daebak
In short
Daebak Hwangso Gopchang is a Korean beef intestine grill restaurant on Gimpo Han-gang-ro in Gimpo, Gyeonggi. The mixed platter (₩59,000) includes gopchang, makchang, daechang, and yeomtong plus the rare beolljipyang (honeycomb tripe), all grilled tableside by the owner himself so every part hits the plate at its best moment. As someone who needs a regular transfusion of grilled gopchang (beef intestines), I took a little outing from Ilsan all the way to Gimpo for it — and when the cravings hit, it's good to have a place like this in your back pocket 🤎 Introducing Daebak Hwangso Gopchang! 🐮
Honestly, this place lives up to its name ("daebak" means "jackpot")... I got to try a wide range of parts with the mixed platter, which came with fragrant grilled gopchang, daechang, makchang, and even beolljipyang (honeycomb tripe). Every part had a different texture and flavor, so it was fun picking through them! If you've been looking for a great gopchang spot in Gimpo, take a look at this review ♡

Inside the restaurant

The moment you walk in, you feel a clean, comfortable atmosphere 🤎 The tables aren't crammed together, so it'd be great for a group to come have gopchang with a bottle of soju. We visited a bit late, but there were still people eating, which instantly gave it that neighborhood-favorite feeling — and right before we left, three more groups walked in haha. Weekends must have a guaranteed wait •••?
The menu

Domestic Korean beef, be still my heart... They also had a spicy gopchang hot pot with a fiery broth. If I hadn't had work the next day, I would've gone all in — such a shame.
Chunyeop and gan (tripe and liver) come free

After the basic side dishes came out, my eyes locked onto 'that' plate — wait, is that chunyeop (beef tripe) and gan (liver)? 🤎 They told us they serve chunyeop and gan for free until they run out. Places that give you free chunyeop and gan are rare these days... found one.
What's in the ₩59,000 mixed platter
And here comes a visual that makes your heart race...

🐂 Mixed Platter 🐂 💸 ₩59,000 💸 ♡ Gopchang, makchang, daechang, beolljipyang, yeomtong, beef brisket, potato, mushroom, kimchi, and tteoksari (rice cake skewer) ♡ A seriously great-value Korean beef intestine grill that lets you enjoy a wide variety of cuts all at once!
Draw #1. The owner grills everything for you, start to finish
The real charm of Daebak Hwangso Gopchang in Gimpo... 💥 the owner grills everything for you himself, from start to finish. He kindly told us when each piece was ready and what to eat first as he grilled. Different cuts cook at different speeds and can easily turn tough, but he timed everything perfectly, so all we had to do was wait for the gopchang to finish cooking to perfection. Thanks to him, we didn't have to frantically flip anything ourselves and could just relax and chat while enjoying the meal.

Draw #2. The mixed platter includes beolljipyang
The mixed platter actually includes beolljipyang (honeycomb tripe)?! Honestly, this is the first time in my life I've seen beolljipyang in a mixed grill platter. It's usually the cut used in hangover soup — apparently it takes a lot of work to prepare for grilling, so most places don't bother with it. At Daebak Hwangso Gopchang, they wash it thoroughly and then slow-boil it with various vegetables 🤭 Lightly grilled, it has this insanely addictive texture — soft yet crispy like a cracker.
Draw #3. Two house-made sauces
There are two house-made sauces — an onion sauce and a cheongyang chili sauce?! Both went well with every organ cut. It was fun choosing based on my mood too! I usually stick to just one sauce I like, but with these two I kept switching back and forth. I really want to go back just for the beolljipyang... really...

Yeomtong with no gamey smell
The yeomtong (beef heart) impressed me from the first bite — clean-tasting, with none of the gamey or fishy notes it can sometimes have. The texture was chewy without being tough, so I kept reaching for more. Honestly, since the owner grills it himself, you're eating it at its absolute peak, so of course it's good ♡ If you're sensitive to that distinctive heart smell, this will especially win you over.

Draw #4. The chive salad is the real MVP
Next up, beef brisket, come at me. Daebak Hwangso Gopchang's chive salad...! It makes everything taste so much better together. This was seriously the MVP — I ate a whole mountain of chives that day. Wrapping every cut with it made the flavor level up so much I wanted to know the recipe.

Gopchang, makchang, daechang texture notes
Which cut is your favorite, everyone?! Mine's gopchang... Bite in and the outside is grilled golden while the inside stays chewy with a rich, nutty flavor that hits right away. This, this is it! It had just the right amount of fat inside, so the more you chewed, the richer it got, and it wasn't tough or dry at all — great texture haha.
Dip it into the special sauce and the spicy kick mixes with the richness of the gopchang, doubling that savory flavor.
Usually you just get plain white tteoksari (rice cake skewers), but at Daebak Hwangso Gopchang they're seasoned like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes)?! It tastes kind of like kimchi tteokbokki, but not hard, so it genuinely feels like eating tteokbokki — such a fresh, nice touch. Seriously, this place really lives up to its name •••
Makchang is, as always, a texture genius with its chewy-crunchy bite! Take a bite of the golden-grilled makchang and the outside is nutty while the inside stays chewy and springy. The more you chew, the more that subtle meaty aroma and nuttiness comes through — I realized, so this is how good beef makchang can be!
I fell asleep the night before watching a mukbang of someone eating whole daechang, so I'd been looking forward to this moment specifically — bring it on... One bite and the outside was chewy while the rich fat inside spread through moistly, exactly what I wanted ♡ It wasn't just greasy — the more you chewed, the more a deep, nutty flavor came through, which daechang lovers will really appreciate!

We wrapped up round one with some thick grilled potatoes.

Finishing with cheese fried rice
I'm not friends with anyone who eats gopchang and skips the fried rice after... Time for round two. Fried rice with extra cheese, stir stir!
Wait, we only ordered one fried rice — this isn't three, right? The portion was huge, so we asked, and the owner casually said the fried rice portion is just naturally big haha. Well then... we're extremely grateful...? The leftover sauce and juices from the gopchang soaked naturally into the rice, giving it real depth, and with the cheese added, the spicy-salty flavor mellowed out beautifully, so I kept going back for more. If you want to end the meal on a satisfying note, I highly recommend adding the cheese fried rice.

And to finish, a Chupa Chups lollipop — such a nice touch ~~~~ 🍭🤍 Owner, you're the best!
Final verdict
With gopchang, daechang, makchang, and even beolljipyang all in one mixed platter, Daebak Hwangso Gopchang was great for trying a wide variety of cuts in one go! And you know places serving beolljipyang are genuinely rare... everyone gather here.
Best of all, because the owner grills everything himself, every cut arrives at its most delicious moment, and overall the meal was clean-tasting with no gamey smell whatsoever. If you're looking for a quality gopchang restaurant in Gimpo where you can properly enjoy a wide range of cuts, I recommend Daebak Hwangso Gopchang ෆ
