Green mulberry-leaf noodles and spicy broth shabu-shabu, Anyang Arts

In short

Ppongip Sarang Anyang Arts Park branch is a shabu-shabu and bossam (boiled pork wrap) restaurant right in front of Anyang Arts Park, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the shabu-shabu bossam set with spicy broth, cooked vegetables and beef in the pot, and tried the green noodles and rice cakes made with mulberry leaf. With the park's walking trail right outside, it made a good combo of a stroll and a warm meal.

I wanted to take a walk around Anyang Arts Park and also eat a solid meal, so this time I went to Ppongip Sarang (뽕잎사랑) 😊

There are quite a few restaurants near Anyang Arts Park, but that day I was craving warm shabu-shabu. What I loved most was that there's a walking trail right in front of the restaurant, so it's easy to take a light stroll before or after eating.

When you come out to Anyang Arts Park, you want to enjoy a good meal and a walk together 🌿 Ppongip Sarang sits right in front of the park, so it was a great place to eat after looking around.

We ordered the shabu-shabu and bossam set that day. Getting bossam along with the shabu-shabu was a nice combo for a day when I wanted to try a bit of everything instead of just one dish.

What comes in the shabu-shabu bossam set?

Shabu-shabu, where you cook vegetables and other ingredients in hot broth, is such an easy, no-pressure dish 😊 Once the broth starts bubbling, you just add the prepared ingredients one by one and cook them. Eating beef along with the vegetables made for a meal that felt both light and filling. If you're looking for shabu-shabu near Anyang Arts Park and want to try a few different things together, this kind of set menu is a good call.

The food comes out really fast. The portions were just right too, so it never felt like too much!

The surprise star: bossam

The biggest surprise that day was the bossam (boiled pork wrap). Since we went for the shabu-shabu, I figured bossam would just be a side add-on, but it turned out to be way tastier than expected 😋

The meat was on the tender side, and eating bossam between bites of shabu-shabu turned out to be a pretty great combo. If you order just shabu-shabu it might feel a bit lacking, so for anyone who wants to try a bit of everything, the set with bossam included is worth it. Honestly, the bossam was the dish that stuck with me most that day.

Green noodles and rice cakes, the mulberry leaf touch

There was one more slightly unusual thing about Ppongip Sarang — the noodles and rice cakes were green 💚

Since the dish uses mulberry leaf, the color was totally different from the noodles and rice cakes you'd usually see in shabu-shabu, which I thought was fun. I didn't get a super strong mulberry leaf flavor — it was more of a visual thing, a little special-looking because of the green color. Watching the green rice cakes and noodles go into the pot made the whole meal feel a bit more playful too haha.

Why it pairs so well with a walking course

Anyang Arts Park is better enjoyed by slowly looking around rather than just eating and leaving right away, so it paired well with a walk. We looked around the area and then ate, and since there's a trail right in front, it was easy to take a light stroll after the meal 🌿 The warm shabu-shabu felt even more satisfying after all that walking. If you're looking for a place to eat with family at Anyang Arts Park, or trying to decide what to eat after a walk with friends, shabu-shabu is a solid choice.

To sum up

What I liked most about this visit to Ppongip Sarang was being able to have shabu-shabu and bossam together. The shabu-shabu was light and clean with vegetables and beef, and the bossam turned out tastier than I expected, which was a nice surprise. The green noodles and rice cakes were also a fun, unusual touch compared to regular shabu-shabu 💚

Above all, with the walking trail right outside, it's a great fit for anyone looking for shabu-shabu near Anyang Arts Park who also wants to combine it with a walk. A loop around Anyang Arts Park followed by a warm bowl of shabu-shabu makes for a nice little course 😊
