Lately, on sleepy weekend afternoons or during weekday lunch hours, I have found myself looking for a lovely place where I can pair a satisfying meal with a refreshing coffee. This time, I visited Cafe The Venezia (카페 더 베네치아), a Wirye brunch café that is hugely popular not only by word of mouth among local residents but also with brunch lovers.

True to its name, the exterior captures the romance and classic mood of Venice, Italy, and catches your eye even from afar. Warm natural light pours brightly through the large windows, while fresh potted plants around the entrance offer a cheerful welcome, making it feel as though you have stepped into a little healing retreat in the city. It is in an ideal location for a quiet lunch brunch, just slightly away from the busy, crowded shopping area.

What is the European-style seating atmosphere like?

Open the café door and you will find an upscale European-style atmosphere, with warm wood tones and antique decor working together beautifully. The high ceiling creates an open, airy feeling, and the generously spaced tables make it perfect for a private meal or an unhurried chat.

The stylish lighting and framed artwork on the walls made me feel as though I were sitting in a café on some European side street. The window seats, especially, are prime spots where photos turn out beautifully thanks to the abundant sunlight. It would work just as well for a date as for a weekend family gathering or a lunch appointment with friends.

Lunch choices when the croissant sandwich was sold out

After finding a seat, I looked over the display case and the counter menu. Cafe The Venezia has a well-rounded brunch lineup for lunch, including a variety of panini, sandwiches, salads, and pasta.

The main reason I came that day was the croissant sandwich set, which gets rave reviews for its rich, crisp buttery flavor. But even though I arrived in time for lunch, the croissants prepared for the day had already sold out after so many customers had come through that morning. I was disappointed to see the Sold Out notice. As these bakery items are baked in limited quantities each day, they can sell out early if you are even a little late.

I was disappointed, but chose another brunch staple instead: the classic club sandwich, a fresh salad to have alongside it, and two refreshing iced Americanos to shake off the sleepiness.

Before long, a generous lunch spread arrived, neatly arranged on a wooden tray. As you would expect from a brunch that you eat with your eyes first, both the look and the plating were excellent.

A thick classic club sandwich

Between slices of golden, crisp toast were layers of crunchy lettuce, thickly sliced tomato, smoked ham, sliced cheese, and a savory fried egg, all stacked without a gap. Take a big bite and the fresh juices of the vegetables, the savory saltiness of the ham, and the not-too-heavy house sauce come together wonderfully. The cross-section was so thick and generous that even half a piece was enough to leave me full, making it an excellent stand-in for lunch.

A garden salad that refreshed the palate

The salad came with leafy greens, cherry tomatoes, black olives, and sweetcorn in a colorful arrangement. Tangy balsamic glaze and a delicate oriental dressing gave it excellent balance, cleansing the palate between bites of sandwich. The vegetables were impressively fresh, with plenty of crisp texture.

Two iced Americanos that suited brunch perfectly

Coffee is an important part of a brunch meal and can determine how satisfying the whole meal feels. The Americano here has a full body with a nutty flavor lingering through it, yet a very clean finish without any muddiness. The crema was deep and fresh, showing that the beans are well cared for, and it paired flawlessly with the sandwich.

• You can use the building's commercial parking lot, which makes driving convenient. Register your vehicle number with a staff member when paying to receive free parking.
• Tables tend to fill up quickly during the weekend lunch peak from 12:00 to 1:30 PM. For a more relaxed, quiet atmosphere, I recommend visiting around 11 AM or around 2 PM, just after lunch.

If you are looking for a satisfying, polished brunch lunch set near Wirye, keep Cafe The Venezia in mind. I was sorry not to get to try the croissant sandwich I had been looking forward to, but the generous club sandwich and salad, along with the clean coffee, completely made up for it and gave me a satisfying lunch. I plan to return soon for another attempt at the croissant.
