Songdo sushi restaurant with two kinds of shrimp sushi: Sushi Doku

In short

Sushi Doku The Songdo is a Japanese sushi set restaurant on the 2nd floor of Onesta Mall in Songdo, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. Two Premium Sushi Sets (₩25,900 each, 10 pieces) brought red shrimp and northern botan shrimp nigiri, truffle chawanmushi and a half-size udon all on one tray. Sushi Doku The Songdo feels like omakase served in a single course at set-menu prices, which makes the wait easy to accept.

Full table spread of the Premium Sushi Set at Sushi Doku The Songdo

Today I'm bringing you a review of one of my favorite foods — Songdo sushi. I love sushi so I've been trying out spots here and there, and this time I went to Sushi Doku, a sushi restaurant loved by 230,000 visitors a year in Seoul. There's a branch at Onesta Mall in Songdo too, so I ran straight over haha. From the sushi set composition to the quality of the sushi itself, it's easy to see why this place is famous. Here's my Sushi Doku The Songdo review :)

Where is Sushi Doku The Songdo, and what about parking and hours?

Sushi Doku The Songdo is on the 2nd floor of Onesta Mall at 157 Songdogukje-daero, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, South Korea. It's open daily 11:00–21:00 with a break time from 14:30–17:00, and parking underneath the building gets you 2 hours free.

Songdo restaurant recommendation: Sushi Doku The Songdo

☑️ This Songdo sushi spot is on the 2nd floor of Onesta Mall. It's a 1-minute walk from Exit 2 of Technopark Station, and it's connected to Triple Street too — from Songhyeona, exit through the front and walk toward Triple Street, then turn right into Onesta Mall. There are chairs set up outside the restaurant, and a little later they fill up completely with waiting customers haha. ☑️ Parking underneath the building gets you 2 hours free.

Sushi Doku started in Seoul and gets 230,000 visitors a year — so nice to know there's a branch in Songdo, Incheon too. Sushi Doku The Songdo is also super popular, so I'd recommend booking ahead on Naver Reservation if you're coming with 6 or more people.

Curtained booths at Sushi Doku The Songdo

Inside Sushi Doku The Songdo, dark curtains act as partitions between tables. They block your view without feeling stuffy, so you never make eye contact with the table right next to you.

Menu page listing the salmon and flounder sushi sets

This is the Sushi Doku The Songdo menu. There are 3 signature set meals, plus salmon, flounder, and mixed salmon-and-flounder sushi sets. I ordered the Premium Sushi Set (₩25,900), which comes with lots of variety, for 2 people.

There's a kids' menu, and you can also order nigiri in portions of 2 or 5 pieces. Great for ordering extra of whatever you liked best after trying the set!

What comes in the ₩25,900 Premium Sushi Set

The Premium Sushi Set comes with 10 kinds of sushi — flounder, red seabream, salmon, squid, botan shrimp, akami tuna, grey shrimp, snow crab meat, eel, monkfish liver — plus mini udon, tempura, salad, and truffle chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg custard).

Here's the Premium Sushi Set I ordered. Look at this spread~~~ 10 kinds of sushi alongside salad, truffle chawanmushi, tempura, and even udon — the composition alone is amazing haha.

The colors in the Premium Sushi Set spread are so vivid it makes you hungry just looking at it haha.

Appetizer salad and truffle chawanmushi

Salad as an appetizer, yum yum.

Truffle chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard)

This is Japanese-style steamed egg custard. I love the Korean basalt-style steamed egg too, but the smooth, pudding-like Japanese version is also great haha. One bite of the chawanmushi and truffle aroma fills your mouth — you can't help but go mmm~~ The ginkgo nuts and shrimp inside go really well together.

The 10 pieces of sushi, including red and botan shrimp

This is the main sushi lineup of the Premium Sushi Set: flounder, red seabream, salmon, squid, botan shrimp, akami tuna, grey shrimp, snow crab meat, eel, monkfish liver. I'd read reviews saying Sushi Doku's nigiri has extra-large sashimi cuts that make it taste even better — and it's true, the pieces are thick and huge, super delicious. So glossy too. I had a happy dilemma over what to try first and dug into the sushi in earnest haha.

Thick-cut grey shrimp nigiri

I started with the grey shrimp nigiri. No flat, thin shrimp slice here — it's thick, you can feel the shrimp's texture, and shrimp aroma fills your mouth. Wow, delicious.

This is the snow crab meat nigiri, piled generously and wrapped with seaweed. I love crab meat but hate picking it apart — this nigiri is clearly made with care, and the taste matches the effort.

Dipped the red seabream nigiri in soy sauce with the brush, then chomped. This is the flounder and monkfish liver nigiri.

Flounder and monkfish liver nigiri

Monkfish liver on top of flounder adds savoriness, and the flavor combo is excellent. The flounder nigiri's texture especially is amazing haha — I, who can only say 'amazing,' am amazed myself.

Salmon nigiri with extra-large sashimi cut

This is the salmon nigiri. The salmon sashimi looks about 2.5 times the normal size. Tastier than the giant salmon sushi I had in Taiwan haha.

Botan shrimp nigiri topped with two pieces

This is the botan shrimp nigiri, topped with 2 pieces. It's tender, and while it's still shrimp, it has a different charm from the grey shrimp nigiri I had earlier.

Akami tuna nigiri

The akami tuna nigiri. You can taste tuna's characteristic rich umami and juiciness.

Eel nigiri with thick meat

My favorite, eel nigiri. The seasoning is just right and the eel meat is piled thick, so the eel's signature nutty flavor really comes through.

Monkfish liver nigiri

Monkfish liver nigiri. An explosion of nuttiness and umami. Even people who don't usually like monkfish liver might change their mind after trying Sushi Doku's version haha.

Tempura and the half-size udon

Side plate of chicken karaage and fried shrimp

Sushi Doku's tempura is excellent too. The chicken karaage and fried shrimp were fried crisp and perfect — as someone who loves tempura, I was impressed hehe.

This is the mini udon. The portion is just right for feeling full after all that sushi.

Mini udon with crown daisy greens and fish cake

Even eaten last, after all that sushi — why is the noodle still this good haha. I can't skip udon with crown daisy greens and fish cake. The Nemo-shaped fish cake is cute and tasty too :)

Otoro sushi from the receipt review promotion

For Sushi Doku The Songdo's September event, you get free otoro sushi for writing a receipt review. We saved the place on Naver Place and wrote a review to get ours haha.

Ta-da, here's the otoro sushi. Otoro is made from the fatty belly part of bluefin tuna.

Otoro sushi received for a receipt review

At a glance it almost looks like raw beef, but wow, tuna can taste like this? No fishy taste, no grainy texture — it's kind of like beef tartare and yet makes you want a whole plate of just this tuna sushi. It's so good that if you visit Sushi Doku, you have to try the otoro nigiri too.

Warm plum tea served at the end of the meal

Finished with a warm cup of plum tea~ They also have disposable mouthwash at the counter, which is a nice touch haha.

Is Sushi Doku The Songdo worth the wait?

The real sushi restaurant I'd been looking for 💛

Full table spread of the Premium Sushi Set at Sushi Doku The Songdo

I like sushi in general, but this is a place that made me go 'wow' even compared to other sushi restaurants I've tried recently. The sushi set composition is so good it felt like getting omakase on a single tray. The price is great compared to the quality, so it's easy to understand why there's a wait. The staff were kind too, and I'd revisit 1000%. Sushi Doku The Songdo, a Songdo favorite — recommended for anyone who loves sushi ❤️💛💚💙💜
