The weather's gotten cooler lately, so I've been out and about a lot. On one of those days I skipped lunch running around, and by the time I got home it felt too late to cook — so I went hunting for a killer dinner option instead. Today I ate a combination no Korean could ever hate: kimchi + pork belly, near Sungshin Women's University Station. I hadn't had it in a while, but it's perfect for a full meal or as a side to drinks. Let me introduce Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch~

Where is Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch and how do you get there?
Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch is at 29-6 Dongsomun-ro 20-gil, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, 1st floor, within walking distance of Sungshin Women's University Station. The station sits on Line 4 and the Ui-Sinseol Line, so transit access was really good. There are also plenty of bus routes nearby, so getting there shouldn't be a hassle.

Patio seats, 2nd-floor group tables and the central screen at Yesulgwan
Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch has both patio-style seating and a 2nd-floor section. I really love outdoor patio vibes, and they've got seats here that pull it off,

The indoor seating is spacious too, with more seats upstairs, making it great for group gatherings. It seemed like a popular spot for wedding invitation get-togethers, and for reuniting with friends after a while.
There's also a screen in the center of the store, which looked perfect for watching the Olympics or World Cup as a group.

What we ordered: pork belly and kimchi grill for two
The signature menu items at Yesulgwan Sungshin Women's University Branch are pork kimchi grill (han-don samgyeop kimchi-guyi) and beef tendon hot pot (seuji jeongol). Since I'd skipped lunch that day and wanted something filling, I ordered the pork kimchi grill for two first. They have a huge range of drinks and sides too, so I was happy with all the options.

Every single side dish was fresh and tasty, so we got refills haha

Cheers to the start of the weekend with somaek (soju-beer cocktail)! Their fridge was really cold, so the somaek tasted amazing haha. And the pork kimchi grill had a bit of a punchy kick, making it the perfect drinking snack too.

Pork belly and kimchi grill at 14,000 won a serving: portion and taste
The pork kimchi grill for two came out first! At ₩14,000 per serving, the portion was so generous it felt like a fair price.

It comes fully cooked from the kitchen, so all we had to do was keep it warm over the burner,

The meat was thick but cooked just right, packed with juices — genuinely delicious. I like my pork belly crispy, so I kept simmering it on low heat while eating, and it turned out exactly to my taste!

And with the kimchi already stir-fried in, this is basically the flawless combo!

Even just wrapping the meat with kimchi in a simple bite was incredibly tasty. The instant burst of juice and meaty aroma with the bite, paired with the tangy yet savory stir-fried kimchi, went together so well.

Perilla leaf wraps and free side dish refills
Loading up on my favorite ingredients for a wrap combo was also really good. The perilla leaves they provided were fresh, and their fragrant scent added great flavor in the mouth.

If you ask, they'll refill the side dishes any time, so you can wrap and eat without worrying about your friends judging the portions.

Finishing fried rice, crisped like nurungji
The fried rice also came fully cooked from the kitchen, which was really convenient and tasty. With kimchi and seaweed flakes mixed in, it's the kind of fried rice flavor no Korean could dislike!

We cooked ours a bit longer to get it crispy like nurungji (scorched rice). It wasn't too salty, and the savory fried-rice flavor really came through, making it perfect as a dessert-like finish.

I also loved wrapping the fried rice with perilla leaves and mayonnaise,

and the seasoned chives were especially delicious paired alongside it.
