I'm Floire, the mother bird who brings her neighbors nothing but the useful stuff haha. Today I was deep in thought about what to eat with the family that would be filling but easy on the stomach. As the weather turned chilly, I found myself craving something deep and rich made with meat, something that would warm me up from the inside. So my husband, who'd finally taken a weekday off, and I decided to go try the Korean beef suyuk (boiled beef) menu, said to be the ultimate in tenderness. Honestly, beef suyuk is easy to overcook into dryness if you're not careful with the heat, so I'm always a bit wary ordering it out — but the plate we got this time looked amazing the second it landed on the table.

Reading that the restaurant has 38 years of experience supplying ingredients to the Blue House and carries a recipe passed down through three generations deepened my trust in the food even more. It made me think that when it comes to taking care of your health during the change of seasons, nothing beats a rich broth simmered with care.

The table: Korean beef suyuk and spicy hangover gomtang

At Useum Pangyo Branch, the two of us ordered the signature Korean beef suyuk and the spicy hangover gomtang (beef bone soup). Everything came out neatly, from the side dishes to the brassware table setting.

The basic side dishes were so tasty that we'd cleaned them all up before the main dishes even arrived. Hahaha.

Side dishes and spoons served in brassware

We ordered the signature Korean beef suyuk together with the spicy hangover gomtang today to properly recharge our bodies. After a short wait, the dishes arrived on the table in neat brassware. The hangover gomtang was bubbling away in its earthenware pot, giving off a spicy, heavy beefy aroma.

The steaming Korean beef suyuk, sliced thin with the meat grain still intact, looked tender just by sight. There wasn't a trace of blandness — it had a spicy yet deeply savory flavor that cleared out my stomach right away.

My husband let out a sigh of satisfaction the moment he tasted the broth, saying all his built-up fatigue melted away, and he kept complimenting it nonstop.

How did the Korean beef suyuk taste?

The dish I was most looking forward to — Korean beef suyuk!!

First, I picked up a piece of the Korean beef suyuk and dipped it lightly in the special sauce to taste it.

Juicy moisture lingered between the layers of meat grain, and it melted in my mouth the moment I took a bite. It was lean and clean without any fat, yet grew nuttier the more I chewed — I couldn't put my chopsticks down.

With this level of care put into it, I nodded along thinking it makes total sense that office workers line up here every weekday for lunch, making it a top pick for lunch near Pangyo Station.

Wrapping it up with the minari (water dropwort) and mushrooms that came alongside, we properly recharged our bodies after a long while.

After stirring rice into the gomtang alongside the Korean beef suyuk and finishing off every last drop of broth, beads of sweat formed on my forehead and my whole body warmed up. It felt less like grabbing a quick instant meal amid a busy day and more like being treated to a precious, restorative dish simmered with time and care.

A reliable restaurant that takes care of you through the changing seasons with deep Korean beef broth simmered for 8 hours without seasoning.

If you're looking for a meal this weekend that will replenish your energy and give your family a warm sense of comfort, how about this rich Korean beef suyuk spread?! If you're nearby and craving something warm and soothing, be sure to stop by for lunch near Pangyo Station haha.
