Busanjin curry restaurant with half-and-half curry and scramble
In short
Sarugak20 is a Japanese curry restaurant in a basement across from the Jeonpo 1-dong community center in Busanjin, Busan. Visiting Jeonpo-dong for an outing before giving birth, the writer ordered half-and-half curry with an added scramble, brisket cream curry, and sweet potato cheese croquettes — the cream curry was mild and the special curry rich, so alternating between them never got boring. Even underground, sunlight fills the space, and with both solo and group seating it's an easy curry spot whether you're eating alone or with company.

Everyone around me kept telling me to go out and enjoy myself before giving birth, so I went on an outing to Jeonpo-dong in Busan! I actually like every kind of curry — Ottogi 3-minute curry, Indian curry, Japanese curry, all of it — but lately I've been really craving Japanese curry specifically. So I looked into it and found out there's a curry spot in Jeonpo called Sarugak20, and I went to check it out. Here's my honest review :)

Sarugak20's location and hours
Sarugak20 is located in a basement directly across from the Jeonpo 1-dong community center.
Tue–Sun 9:30–19:30 (closed Mondays) Last order 19:00
Since Sarugak20 is underground, you have to head down a staircase. There's a handrail on the left, so go down carefully haha.

The menu board and kitchen are right there as soon as you come down!

A basement space that still gets sunlight
I definitely walked down into a basement, but it felt like ground level haha. It was a warm restaurant with plenty of sunlight coming in! There's also a group table, so it looks great for visiting with several people :)

Once you walk in, the owner hands you a paper menu. You take the paper, pick whatever seat you like, and order from there 👍

Cold water and glasses are also set out for you.
There were cozy seats like this too.
There are also plenty of solo-friendly seats, so it's a great place to drop by alone comfortably too! 👍
There's even a sink to wash your hands 🥹 with hand wash, hand towels, and hand cream all set up.. ✨️
On one wall of the restaurant there's this row of nice furniture and little decor pieces 📻🪑

They also sell cute little accessories like bracelets, rings, and keyrings haha. There was a lot to look at before the food came out, which I liked.

What we ordered
- Brisket cream curry
- Half-and-half curry + added scramble
- Sweet potato cheese croquettes (2pc)
- Zero-sugar cider

After ordering, they brought out spoons, napkins, a straw, and the drink first!

Half-and-half curry, two flavors — cream and special
This is the half-and-half curry. Anyone who comes to Sarugak20 will probably want to order this just from the look of it..!
What am I supposed to do about all that cheese...🥹 I added an omelet too haha. Gotta get that protein in~~😝
The half-and-half curry is split into cream curry and special curry, so alternating between the two meant I never got sick of it! The cream curry was mild, while the special curry felt richer and more full-flavored — the taste is completely different, just like the two colors of curry.

Brisket cream curry
This is the brisket cream curry. How do they get the rice-to-curry ratio so perfectly matched every time — I finished it all without either running short.

Look at that brisket..!✨️ The brisket wasn't tough at all and tasted great. It wasn't super melt-in-your-mouth tender, but it had a bit of a chew to it, which actually went better with the curry haha.

Doesn't it look so pretty all laid out together?😍 I'm not the only one who eats a ton of kimchi with curry, right?..haha. That diced radish kimchi (kkakdugi) worked like a pickle on pizza — eating a bit of it in between bites made everything taste even better>_<

Sweet potato cheese croquette
Sweet potato cheese croquette 🍠🧀 The shredded cabbage salad underneath the croquette was an unexpected nice touch..! Refreshing to eat as a palate cleanser haha.

The croquette was super crispy, and it was packed with cheese and sweet potato inside, so it was sweet and savory and just so good 👍 (It's hot right out of the fryer, so let it cool a bit before eating..!)

I scraped the plate completely clean — didn't leave anything, kkakdugi and all haha.

They also sell frozen curry to take home :) It seems like it'd be great to just heat up simply at home!
