Jeonpo pasta restaurant dinner date: pistachio jambon, Odd Bird Oliver

In short

Odd Bird Oliver is a pasta and brunch restaurant a 3-minute walk from Jeonpo Station in Busanjin, Busan. On a third visit, this time a dinner date, the writer ordered the new pistachio jambon pasta, the bottarga aglio e olio and 2 pieces of focaccia bread. Odd Bird Oliver's pistachio jambon pasta balances a nutty butter base with salty house-made black pork jambon, making it a good pick for anyone who wants something beyond the usual pasta flavors.

I visited Odd Bird Oliver, a pasta spot in Busanjin, for a date with my boyfriend and had a great time eating the new pistachio jambon pasta, the always-reliable bottarga aglio e olio, and focaccia bread — here's my review.

The vibe is great and, more than anything, the food is delicious, so this was already my third visit!! Good for brunch with friends during the day and a lovely date spot for dinner — a great Busanjin restaurant in every sense.

The atmosphere both outside and inside the shop was so full of character, right down to the cute little props — really lovely. The aprons hanging on the wall aren't for use, haha (my boyfriend almost took one home). If you need an apron, they'll bring you a disposable one.

All the staff served us so kindly. It's an open kitchen, so it's a place you can trust what's happening behind the scenes! During the day you can eat comfortably in warm natural light, and in the evening you can chat over dinner under warm lighting!

It's a dog-friendly restaurant so you can bring your pup, and since they have kids' tableware and chairs, you can also visit with children — there was even a group of six.

Focaccia bread (2 pcs) and bottarga aglio e olio

Food spread laid out on the table at Odd Bird Oliver

Odd Bird Oliver makes unusual, distinctive food reflecting the owner's own taste.

House-made focaccia bread, 2 pieces, as a side dish

The first side dish to arrive was the 2 pieces of focaccia bread. The house-made focaccia has a great chewy texture, delicious on its own, and even better dipped in the pasta sauce.

Bottarga aglio e olio topped with mullet roe

The bottarga aglio e olio comes topped with mullet roe, and they told us to mix it well before eating.

The umami of the bottarga and shrimp, the kick of the peperoncino, and the generous garlic — a flavor that hits the sweet spot for Korean palates!!

Bottarga aglio e olio piled generously with shrimp

There was a generous amount of shrimp on top, so we could eat our fill without any regrets!

What does the pistachio jambon pasta taste like?

A plate of the new pistachio jambon pasta

The dish I was most curious about just from the name — pistachio jambon pasta! Jambon and pistachio together?🤔 It's a combination I'd never even imagined, so I was dying to know what it would taste like.

Butter-based pasta topped with house-made black pork jambon

The butter-based pistachio jambon pasta, topped with house-made black pork jambon, was a flavor I'd never tried before, so it felt refreshingly new. Scooping up a generous bite with the sauce, the nuttiness of the pistachio and butter blended really well with the salty jambon!

A forkful of pistachio jambon pasta lifted up

They make all the sauces in-house, and it was so rich and luxurious that ordering the focaccia turned out to be a stroke of genius — we wiped every last bit of sauce clean.

Focaccia bread topped with pasta sauce

At most restaurants you can pretty much predict what a pasta will taste like, but the pistachio jambon pasta at Odd Bird Oliver felt special, and I loved that!!

Pistachio jambon pasta mixed together with the noodles

It's delicious eaten with the pasta noodles too,

Jambon and sauce piled on top of focaccia bread

and the texture was also great piled onto the focaccia bread like this.

A must-recommend spot for any pasta-loving friends 🫶🏻 — great vibe, kind staff, and unique dishes you won't find elsewhere. Highly, highly recommend Odd Bird Oliver, the pasta and brunch spot in Jeonpo, Busan!
