Suyeong pork barbecue with staff grilling: Donbegi Gwang-an Branch

Where is Donbegi Gwang-an Branch, and is parking available?

Donbegi Gwang-an Branch (돈베기 광안점) is near Millak the Market. Its address is on the first and second floors at 34 Millakbondong-ro 11beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan. At the time of the original post, it was listed as open daily from 12:00 to 23:30, and it offered two hours of parking support at the Centum Primo parking lot opposite.

I visited by public transport. After getting off at the Route 41 bus terminus, it was about a one- to two-minute walk.

The exterior was finished in dark brown wood, which gave it a cozy feel. A large menu board and a cold kimchi kalguksu banner on the wall made it easy to check the menu and prices before going in.

What pork dishes are on the menu, and how much do they cost?

The menu had sets centered on shoulder rack, individual meat dishes, and meal items. These were the set options and prices I noted at the time.

• Couple wine table: ₩47,000 for two, with shoulder rack and two glasses of house wine
• Couple assorted table: ₩55,000 for two to three people, with shoulder rack and either five-layer pork belly or pork neck
• Family assorted table: ₩74,000 for three to four people, with shoulder rack, five-layer pork belly, and pork neck
• Changing the shoulder rack to French rack cost an extra ₩2,500

Individual meat options included French slice, French rack, marinated or salted galmaegisal (pork skirt meat), shoulder rack, five-layer pork belly, pork neck, 4 mm samgyeopsal (pork belly) and pork neck, sirloin extra cut, and honeycomb pork skin. Meal items included noodles, ttukbaegi bokkeumbap (stir-fried rice in an earthenware pot), stew, steamed egg, and rice.

Are there group tables and a self-service side-dish bar?

There was group seating inside, while most of the other tables seated four. I could take extra side dishes myself from the self-service bar.

How was the assorted pork set and meal I ordered?

I ordered the 800 assorted set, which came with French rack, five-layer pork belly, and pork neck. I also added marinated galmaegisal and the summer-only cold kalguksu.

• One 800 assorted set: ₩76,500, with French rack 400g, five-layer pork belly 200g, and pork neck 200g
• Two servings of marinated galmaegisal: ₩19,600
• Two cold kalguksu: ₩14,000 total, ₩7,000 each
• Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew): ₩5,500 in the order record; rice charged separately
• Three bowls of rice: ₩3,000 total, ₩1,000 each

I also ordered drinks and alcohol. The doenjang jjigae was listed at ₩5,000 on the menu I noted earlier, but the order record shows ₩5,500, so the original post contains both prices.

Do staff grill the meat for you?

The staff grilled the meat themselves, so I could eat comfortably. The basic table setting was neat, with several accompaniments for the meat, including salt, wasabi, and scallion salad. I took the cutlery from the storage space beside the table.

The restaurant stated that it selects domestically raised female pigs slaughtered that day, then cross-ages them for 20 days while moving their positions four times.

I also enjoyed the marinated galmaegisal I added. I had it with steamed egg, doenjang jjigae, and rice; I thought the steamed egg would be good for children, too. I enjoyed it myself as well.

How was the summer-only cold kimchi kalguksu?

Lastly, I had the cold kimchi kalguksu, which was said to be sold only in summer. I was disappointed that it did not seem to contain much kimchi, but the cold kalguksu noodles were chewy.
