If you ask me what I most love to eat, pork belly always comes to mind first, right? And when it's drizzling outside, I crave it even more. Last week when it was raining, I got that craving again, so I headed to a Suwon Station favorite for pork belly, Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch — here's my honest review.

Hours and parking
Daily 16:00 – 01:00 the next day
No parking lot here. I used the paid Woori Bank parking lot nearby.

What I ordered and the prices
6mm fresh pork belly ₩14,000 for 2 servings, 4mm frozen pork belly ₩11,000 for 1 serving, clam soft tofu stew ₩5,000, and tin-lunchbox jjajangmyeon ₩4,000. Ordering generously here, haha.

90s retro atmosphere
The moment I stepped into Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch, that retro vibe just exploded. Even the music was so nostalgic, stuff I listened to as a kid, and every little prop had that retro feel.
Maybe it's the 90s sentiment? Somehow the more nostalgic interior made me feel like the pork belly would taste even better.

Among the pork belly places near Suwon Station, this one's really spacious and comfortable, and there were so many customers. Prices aren't expensive either, so I could see why so many people come here.

Waiting excitedly for the pork belly party to begin. Does pork belly taste better on rainy days?

With 90s hit songs as my companions.

The basic table setting and sauces
Whoa, my jaw dropped just from the basic table setting. Pork belly really can taste so different depending on how it's set up.

So many different sauces too. There's a fresh egg yolk sauce, and gochujang (red chili paste) for dipping the pork belly, which is also so good. So glad to see it!

Bracken fern has to be grilled to taste right.

The crunchy seasoned bean sprouts came out delicious.

The kimchi's color looked really good too.
Staff grill the first batch for you
At Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch, the staff grill the first batch of meat themselves. Meat grilled by someone else always tastes better, right! While the expert cooked up delicious meat with practiced hands...

I mixed up the seasoned scallion side dish.

This corn salad was so good.

Pickled garlic shoots, the perfect partner for pork belly, so delicious.

Nice touch putting the bean sprouts, kimchi and bracken fern at the very bottom of the pan so they cook evenly in the fat. Cooking them just makes everything twice as tasty.

How was the 6mm fresh pork belly?
Ah, the visual is almost too much. I feel like I can smell it through the photo. Starting with the thick fresh pork belly.
Pork belly with the fat rendered right out — I don't cook mine too long, and when it gets that nice golden brown, the savory pork flavor really comes through, which I love.

This is that ecstatic flavor every Korean just knows. Honestly, this is Michelin-star to me.

The 4mm frozen pork belly with grilled kimchi combo
We polished off the 2 servings of fresh pork belly in no time and quickly ordered the frozen version.

Grilled kimchi, bracken fern, and a piece of frozen pork belly together — instant paradise! This is seriously the best combo, such a happy flavor.

The spicy soft tofu stew cuts through any pork richness that might otherwise feel heavy, and it just makes you want to eat even more pork.
Jjajangmyeon delivered in a tin lunchbox
They give you scallion kimchi here too. And what does that mean? You simply have to order jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles). It comes delivered in a tin lunchbox, which was such a nice touch.
How could anyone resist jjajangmyeon after seeing this!

Yeah, this is the combo. Ramyeon someone else cooks for you always tastes better.

Today was definitely a carb day. I only ordered one serving since it felt wrong not to try it, but the portion size was insane…
Still, you gotta try at least a bite, please just try it. I topped it with scallion kimchi and it was crazy good. Seems like there's some meat mixed in too, giving it nice texture. Even if you're stuffed, I highly recommend at least one bite.

Waiting time and final thoughts
I get why this is one of the most beloved pork belly spots near Suwon Station. Just know there can be a wait in the evenings or on weekends.
Pork belly is practically Korea's soul food, that familiar to us. My verdict on Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch: you absolutely have to go. A place with such a satisfying spread where you can taste the true essence of pork belly again — I highly recommend it.
