Late-night bibim noodles and egg-yolk sauce: Taejang Sikdang Suwon

In short

Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is a 4mm frozen pork belly restaurant on Hyanggyo-ro near Suwon Station. Visiting on a weekday after 10pm, the writer ordered two servings of 4mm pork belly with bibim noodles (spicy mixed noodles), and the egg-yolk special sauce, fresh lettuce wraps, and scallion salad were enough to bring them back four or five times in two weeks. With retro interiors and friendly staff, it's a solid pick for Korean BBQ near Suwon Station.

It's gotten noticeably cooler in the mornings and evenings lately..! Watch out for seasonal colds, everyone,,,! There's a Suwon Station pork belly spot my partner has been totally obsessed with recently, and it's 'Taejang Sikdang' Suwon Station branch.

We used to go whenever we were craving frozen pork belly, but these past two weeks we've been like 4 or 5 times,, hahaha. The staff literally asked 'you're back again?' at one point. That should tell you how often we go back 👀

You can join the waitlist through Catch Table. A wait is basically mandatory on weekend evenings, but we went on a weekday after 10pm and it was totally relaxed.

An interior packed with 90s–2000s retro vibes

The second you walk in, it's a straight-up nostalgia trip to the 90s and 2000s,, the retro vibes are no joke. There's even a music video wall playing hits that anyone born in the 70s–90s will love!

They've also got old-school arcade games haha. Lots of people play them while waiting for a table!

Aprons are hanging on the wall, so just grab one and put it on.

Here's the menu. We ordered two servings of the 4mm pork belly that night. At ₩11,000 per serving, the price is really reasonable 🤙🏻

True to being a Suwon Station favorite for pork belly, every table has pepper ready to go!

At this Suwon Station spot, the water is barley tea haha. A BBQ place that serves barley tea is the best~~~

Side dishes, sauces, and scallion salad

Once you sit down, they set out the side dishes like this. Side dishes aside, the sheer number of sauces is really something.

And this scallion salad is genuinely delicious. I'm someone who hates vegetables and never touches anything but kimchi, but I actually eat Taejang Sikdang's scallion salad haha.

The first batch, grilled by the staff

Our two servings of pork belly arrived! FYI, at this Suwon Station pork belly specialist, staff grill the first batch of meat and set out the side vegetables themselves so you can just focus on eating and talking! From the second batch on, you grill it yourself.

Since we come so often ^^... we just told the staff we'd grill it ourselves this time, haha. They still sprinkle pepper on to taste.

Doesn't it look amazing!! The lean meat-to-fat ratio is just right and there's zero funky smell to the meat. Total winner,, 🤤

My partner really eats well, right~? Wrapped up plenty of lettuce wraps to their taste too. One reason I keep coming back to Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station is that the lettuce wraps are never wilted — always completely fresh! (I notice this every single time)

The egg-yolk special sauce is the real kicker

And the real kicker at this Suwon Station pork belly specialist is the egg-yolk special sauce. Break the yolk into the special sauce, dunk the meat all the way in, and the savory richness is absolutely insane 🤤

The bibim noodles that made us buy our own noodles

One of the dishes my partner got totally hooked on at Taejang Sikdang is the bibim noodles (spicy mixed noodles). Everyone knows bibim noodles plus meat is a top-tier combo, right?

But Taejang Sikdang is different.... both the noodles and the sauce are totally unlike anywhere else. My partner even asked the owner which noodles they use, and actually went and bought that exact brand haha.

Eating it with the meat is pure bliss 🤤 If you go to Taejang Sikdang, definitely order a bibim noodles!! I heard from a friend that the fried rice is also really good!

We said we'd only eat a little but couldn't help ourselves and ordered another serving. And as always, the staff were so friendly! They handle requests really quickly too 🥹

Pork belly dipped in gochujang, and grilled kimchi

Did you know pork and gochujang (red chili paste) go really well together?!? I only discovered this recently at Taejang Sikdang and now I dip everything in gochujang 😏 It's a kimchi spot even kimchi lovers approve of, so make sure to grill the kimchi too!

Why I'd recommend it as a Suwon Station pork belly favorite

On your way out, they'll spray some Febreze on you so you leave smelling fresh! If you're looking for a Suwon Station favorite, a Suwon Station pork belly favorite, or a Suwon Station samgyeopsal spot, I'd recommend visiting Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch. If we're going more than twice a week, that's proof enough the food's good, right~~? Strongly recommend a visit! I'm probably going again pretty soon 🤤
