Braised pollock and hangover soup near Gasan Outlet: Gim Myeongtae

Today I'm bringing you a review of a true neighborhood favorite near Gasan Outlet — Gim Myeongtae Spicy Braised Short Ribs Gasan Branch! I don't usually love braised pollock, but I fell for this one... eating it with the hotpot rice made it taste even more heavenly?!! Let me introduce it quickly haha

Walk about 3 minutes from behind Hyundai Outlet and you'll see a shop with a big signboard right away! I ended up here after coming out of the movies looking for somewhere to eat!

Free hotpot rice if you come before 3pm

Whether it's a weekday or weekend, if you come before 3pm, you get a lunch special of ₩2,000 hotpot rice per person for free. I really recommend visiting before 3pm!!!!

Atmosphere — a spacious hall for solo diners and groups alike

The restaurant has a spacious, clean interior with plenty of seats, and on the weekend there were all kinds of guests — solo diners, family gatherings, friend meetups!!

I visited on a weekend evening so it was pretty relaxed, but since it's near Gasan Digital Complex Station where there are so many offices, it's packed with office workers for both lunch and dinner on weekdays

Looks like you can also get coffee on your way out

They also sell tofu chips, so I considered grabbing one

Side dishes and self-serve bar

We visited in the evening and ate the siraegi myeongtae jorim with an added hotpot rice!!!

First, they set out such a generous spread of side dishes ♡ bean sprouts, pickled onions, kimchi, seaweed, fish cake, corn salad — genuinely the kind of banchan you keep reaching for, and there's a self-serve bar so you can refill whatever runs low!! I refilled a few times myself

They also gave us bean sprout soup to sip while waiting for the food! The staff were so, so kind, which made it even better haha

Hotpot rice cooked fresh when you order

The hotpot rice came out first! They use freshly harvested rice with beans and other grains, cooking it fresh to order so it comes out fluffy

Like the poster here says, a rice restaurant needs good rice — and this was such delicious rice... warm hotpot rice, I really can't resist it ㅠㅠ

Pouring water into the pot the moment the rice comes out is a must!!!!

Hwangtae haejangguk, generous with dried pollock

And the hwangtae haejangguk came out soon after!

Usually when you order hwangtae haejangguk, there ends up being more bean sprouts than actual dried pollock, but here there was a generous layer of pollock underneath! The broth was deep and rich, and even though I hadn't been drinking, it felt like a proper hangover cure //

Siraegi myeongtae jorim for one — portion and spice level?

The main event, siraegi myeongtae jorim!!!!!! The visual alone is killer,,,

Even as a single serving it looked huge, and it actually was? The pieces were quite large and hearty

I asked for it less spicy and the sauce's heat level was just right!!

Can you see how generous the fish flesh is...? Eating this with the hotpot rice is basically a knockout...

And the dried radish greens are genuinely delicious, so I recommend ordering a menu item that includes them ㅠ

Piling pollock onto seaweed, bean sprouts, and dried radish greens! A familiar flavor hits different... even I, who doesn't usually eat much braised pollock, kept reaching for more. My mom, who loves braised pollock, gave her true verdict that she'd order it for takeout next time haha
