Siheung Korean BBQ with kids: beef ribs at Daehwa Sutbul Garden

In short

Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch is a beef rib restaurant on the first floor of the Yuseung Hannaedeul commercial building in Janggok-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi. A sogalbihanpan (beef ribs platter) set for ₩59,000 came with complimentary kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), sausage, chicken, and ice cream, and the not-too-salty side dishes plus self-serve bar made it an easy place to eat with a child. A generous meal worth a return visit, right down to wrapping the free ice cream in ppeongtwigi (puffed rice crackers) brought from home.

A Siheung beef rib restaurant I want to visit again

Some places you go to once and that's it, but this Daehwa Sutbul Garden review starts because the taste, atmosphere, and price were all good enough to make me want to come back :)

Location, parking, and waiting

It's on the first floor of the Yuseung Hannaedeul commercial building, and parking is available in the building's lot :) Being a well-known Janggok-dong restaurant, there can be waits on weekends and Fridays, so I'd recommend booking through Naver Reservations before you go!

Interior of the BBQ restaurant with Korean-style atmosphere

A noble-house atmosphere and the self-serve bar

It was so crowded I couldn't take many interior photos, but instead of the usual bright BBQ restaurant look, it has interior styling like a Korean noble house! The overall feel is upscale and calm, but not so formal or stiff that it's uncomfortable — good for family, couples, and all kinds of gatherings, and it looked like a nice place to host guests too.

Oh, and another good thing here is the self-serve bar! Tortillas, potato salad, pickles, kimchi, vegetables — all sorts of side dishes to pair with the meat! The sauces are also very varied~ The potato salad especially is delicious, so go back for seconds, or really, thirds~

Sogalbihanpan (beef ribs platter) ₩59,000, set composition

Order the sogalbihanpan set (₩59,000) and they bring out complimentary kalguksu, sausage, chicken, and ice cream too, so the price doesn't feel like a burden at this Siheung beef rib restaurant :)

They're also running a review event where you get sweet shrimp + gamtae (dried seaweed) or snow crab stew as a gift. On top of that, book through Naver Reservations and you get free yukhoe (beef tartare), so definitely reserve before you go! The scale of the review event here is bigger than most places!!

Beef seaweed soup and side dishes laid out
Side dishes set at a window-side table

A full spread of side dishes, including beef seaweed soup

Here comes the full spread of side dishes, including beef miyeokguk (seaweed soup)! The sun happened to be setting and we had a window-side table, so the soup is practically glowing hahaha

A bowl of beef seaweed soup
Plates of not-too-salty side dishes

The side dishes overall weren't too salty, so it was good for feeding a kid, and the beef soup was packed full too, so it worked well as a drinking snack too :) Anything you run low on you can grab endlessly from the self-serve bar I showed earlier, which makes it even better!

Marinated beef ribs before grilling

The taste of charcoal-grilled beef ribs

Here comes the good-looking Siheung beef ribs !! Put meat over good charcoal and it sizzles as it cooks, taking on that charcoal aroma — meat really does taste best grilled over charcoal haha Since it's beef, it doesn't need long to cook, so lucky for us we could eat it quickly..? haha

Beef ribs grilling topped with garlic
A fully grilled piece of charcoal beef rib

Maybe because there's so much garlic piled on top, there was no gamey meat smell at all, and it was tender with a marinade that wasn't sweet or harsh, so it was fine to feed to a kid too! The savory flavor of beef fat combined with garlic aroma felt very natural..!

Beef rib topped with chamnamul salad
Beef rib wrapped with garlic pickles
A bite of beef rib with side dishes

The garlic pickle + chamnamul (aster) salad combo

It's tasty with just the chamnamul (aster greens) salad too, but personally eating it together with garlic pickles is even more heavenly ㅠㅠ I guess this is why people come looking for this Janggok-dong restaurant. The tangy, pungent taste of the pickles cleans your palate so you can keep eating more meat hahaha

A plate of complimentary chicken
Chicken grilled in a garlic oil sauce dish
Complimentary chicken grilling on the grate

Complimentary chicken, and a tip so none falls through the grill

And here's another perk of Daehwa Sutbul Garden! Order the Siheung beef ribs and they give you this chicken on the house~ It's delicious but because of the cut it's a bit small, right? It slips right through the grill grates..! ㅠㅠㅠ

So let me share a tip. If you put it in the garlic oil sauce dish while grilling, you won't lose a single piece through the grill!! Crunchy and totally delicious~

Complimentary kalguksu with potato and zucchini
Old-school market-style kalguksu broth
Ice cream topped with cereal and bean powder

A finish like old-school market kalguksu

The finish is once again the complimentary kalguksu! This isn't the clean, fancy kind of kalguksu — it has more of an old-school market kalguksu feel, with potato and zucchini in it!

So much potato and zucchini in there!! It naturally adds vegetable flavor to the broth too! Best of all, it's not spicy, so it was easy to share with our kid too! ㅋㅋㅋ It's on the light, clean side, so eating it after the Siheung beef ribs felt like it settled everything comfortably!!

Ice cream wrapped in puffed rice crackers

And the real finish is the ice cream! It comes with cereal, bean powder, and red beans mixed in, so it's kind of like patbingsu (shaved ice dessert)? ㅋㅋㅋ Oh, and we happened to bring ppeongtwigi (puffed rice crackers) as a kid's snack, and wrapping the ice cream in that was the perfect ending ㅠ

This is the famous ppeongsukeurim (puffed-cracker ice cream)...ㅋㅋㅋ If you happen to have ppeongtwigi at home, you should try this combo too :) After happily eating meat, then hot kalguksu, and finishing with ice cream, the meal felt properly complete. Once again, this Janggok-dong restaurant earns its reputation for generous portions!
