Daegu Dongin-dong Korean restaurant: bossam at Uldong Bossam

In short

Uldong Bossam is a Korean restaurant in Dongin-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu. I visited with two acquaintances and shared medium bossam and a minari pancake; the moist meat and neatly arranged side dishes left a good impression.

What was the atmosphere like for a meal with acquaintances?

The interior was clean and comfortable, with a distinctly Korean atmosphere. It was a good place to eat with acquaintances, and I also thought it would suit a dinner with a partner.

What did we order, and what side dishes came with it?

We ordered Uldong Bossam’s medium bossam and a minari pancake. Since I usually like neatly arranged Korean meals, I thought this was also a good combination to enjoy with a drink.

I liked the side dishes first of all. The restaurant explained that it makes all of its side dishes in-house and chooses ingredients suited to the season.

Ssam vegetables, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), seasoned bean sprouts, pickled onions, and more were served. They paired well with the bossam, and I enjoyed having seasonal side dishes together with it.

How was the medium bossam for three people?

The bossam came with several cuts, including gabrisal, or pork shoulder jowl. With the meat and side dishes arranged together, it made a neatly presented Korean table.

There were three of us, and in my view the medium bossam looked suitable for three or four people to share. That day, we also ordered a minari pancake.

The meat was sliced without being too thick, and it was moist and tender. The texture felt more tender than the dryness I had been worried about.

We ate the bossam with several side dishes. I was satisfied that the whole table was arranged neatly, not just the meat.

How did the minari pancake taste?

The minari pancake contained a small amount of shrimp. It was cooked thin and crisp, which suited my preference for pancakes where you can feel the texture of the ingredients.

One of the people with me cut the pancake with scissors. It was tasty dipped in the restaurant’s house spicy vinegar-chili sauce and soy sauce.

Both people who came with me said they would like to return with their parents. Thanks to the tender bossam and neatly prepared side dishes, I also remember it as a pleasant place to share Korean food with acquaintances.
