My husband wanted boiled pork, so we visited Uldong Bossam (울동보쌈) in Daegu’s Dongin-dong. We ordered the small bossam serving and a potato pancake for two, and liked not only the tender meat but also the side dishes served with it.

Where is Uldong Bossam, and is parking available?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 279 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu. It is across from the main entrance of Daegu Metropolitan City Hall’s Dongin Office and a 1–2-minute walk from Dongin-dong Jjimgalbi Alley. There is no private parking lot, so you need to use paid parking.

The hours listed in the original post are 11:00–23:00 daily. The break is 15:00–16:30, and last order is at 21:30.

What is the atmosphere like?

The interior had a clean, cozy feel with warm wood tones. It seemed suitable for lunch with colleagues or dinner for two. There were high chairs, and the separate men’s and women’s restrooms also made it worth considering for a family meal.

Soju, beer, makgeolli, and whisky were displayed as well. Plum tea was available to drink after the meal.

What did we order, and how much did it cost?

We ordered the small Uldong Bossam serving and a potato pancake. The menu items and prices listed in the original post were as follows.

  • Uldong Bossam small serving for two: ₩29,000
  • Potato pancake: ₩9,000
  • Bossam set: ₩10,900
  • Bossam set with extra meat: ₩12,900

There was also a bossam set for solo diners. This time, we chose the small serving to share between two people.

What are the sauce and side dishes like with the bossam?

A small mortar filled with sesame seeds came to the table. Grinding the seeds released a nutty aroma, and we could pour in the soy sauce provided beside it to make a dipping sauce for the boiled pork.

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) served with the meal also suited my taste. After eating the boiled pork and vegetables, it paired well with rice and warm stew.

The side dishes included musaengchae (seasoned shredded radish), seasoned bean sprouts, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), yeolmu-kimchi (young radish kimchi), seasonal greens, and onions. Doenjang, salted shrimp, and a spicy seasoned sauce were also served. The dishes arrived neatly arranged, and after trying them one by one, I found they suited my taste.

I heard that the restaurant makes its side dishes in-house with seasonal ingredients. The selection changes slightly with the season.

How was the texture of the small Uldong Bossam serving?

The meat included both lean sections and fat, with the tenderness standing out. I did not notice any unpleasant odor, and it had been boiled until soft and yielding. If you prefer boiled pork that is mostly lean, keep in mind that this serving includes fat.

We wrapped the pork in ssam with perilla leaves, lettuce, minari, onions, garlic, and chili peppers, choosing combinations to our taste. The onions were sweet too, and it was fun switching between the vegetables and sauces.

What does the cheese-topped potato pancake taste like?

The potato pancake arrived thin and crispy. At the table, they grated cheese over it directly, and we could add as much as we wanted. It was good dipped in ketchup or soy-based sauce.

The tender bossam and crispy potato pancake each stood out for their texture. The side dishes also suited my taste, so I would like to return, and I felt the potato pancake would work well either alongside a meal or as a drinking snack.
