First visit to BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch

I stopped by BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch, which has built quite a reputation for its solid dessert lineup, to recharge with something sweet and lift my mood! I absolutely love going on bakery pilgrimages, so this was a place I had had my eye on—and the quality was even better than expected. I had actually ordered its Dubai salt bread by delivery once before, but this was my first time visiting in person.

It is tucked into a nearby side street, about a five-minute walk from Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station on Subway Lines 2 and 5, so it is quite easy to reach by public transit.

Set just off the busy main road at the entrance to a residential neighborhood, it has a quiet feel, yet the simple, stylish white sign makes it easy to spot even from afar. The cute, warm atmosphere gave me that cozy Dangsan-dong bakery feeling from the moment I reached the entrance!

What was the café like on a weekday afternoon?

When I stepped inside, it was already quite full, with hardly any empty seats even on a weekday afternoon.

It does not have a huge number of seats like a big franchise, but the cozy wood-toned interior and soft lighting make it comfortable to linger in. Groups chatting away and people reading with coffee and dessert blended together naturally, giving it the relaxed mood of a Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station café frequented by local residents and nearby office workers.

From Wakku salt bread to baked treats

After looking around, I headed over to the display cases and shelves to seriously start choosing breads.

In the display case was the shop's signature Wakku salt bread series! The Dubai salt bread I had enjoyed before was on display too. The Wakku salt breads came in fig, blueberry, and peach. Everything looked so good that choosing was quite a struggle.

Next to the case, many kinds of financiers and baked treats were arranged so appetizingly. Their baked color looked gorgeous, and every pastry was generously topped with ingredients. It was a hearty lineup worthy of a Yeongdeungpo-gu Office bakery that bread lovers would find hard to pass by. 🥯

There were all sorts of bakery items, including bagels and salt bread, so this seems like the place to come whenever a bread craving hits. They also had trendy chocolate baguettes and butter rice cakes. BYWAY really seems to keep up with the trends—if a dessert is trending, they have it, haha.

After much deliberation, I picked four items that day: an egg tart, a pecan pie financier, an almond chocolate financier, and the fresh peach yogurt Wakku salt bread, which caught my eye from the start! Off home they went in a cute paper bag.

How were the egg tart and financiers?

I was especially craving something sweet, so I chose the pecan pie and almond chocolate versions. All the financiers looked genuinely delicious, so choosing one was hard. The egg tart had distinct flaky layers in the crust—crispy outside and soft inside. The financiers had that classic baked-treat texture: pleasantly chewy on the outside and satisfyingly dense inside, haha. The almond chocolate one was especially delicious to me!

✔️ Fresh peach yogurt Wakku salt bread ₩7,500 I finally tried the Wakku salt bread that has been so popular lately. Its crispy, chewy salt-bread base was filled with tangy yogurt cream and sweet fresh peach flesh! It was an eye-opening flavor 👀

True to its Wakku name, the coated salt bread cracks open with a snap before you eat it, which was really fun, haha.

The fresh yogurt cream and crisp peach worked so well together that it never became cloying. The sweet-salty balance was perfect! Highly recommended 🤎
