Window seats and mentaiko baguette at open: Bakerist Brown, Gangnam

In short

Bakerist Brown is a bakery café spanning basement to 3rd floor on the uphill road between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations in Seoul. Visiting right at opening, the writer grabbed a window seat overlooking a Gangnam alley and ordered mentaiko baguette, a sand cookie set, black sesame latte, and café latte. The black sesame latte and the mentaiko-packed bread were satisfying, though the sand cookies felt a bit pricey for their size and taste.

Main photo of Bakerist Brown, a bakery café near Sinnonhyeon Station

I visited Bakerist Brown a few months ago just for the bread! This time I came with my sister and had some delicious drinks and desserts. I ordered different breads from last time, so let me give you an honest review along with an introduction to Bakerist Brown.

Bakerist Brown's location — the uphill road between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations

Next to the CGV building between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station, there's a long uphill road. Restaurants and cafés line this street, and Bakerist Brown sits right along it haha. It's not far from the main road, so it's a great spot to drop by after hanging out on the avenue.

A bread case with so many options it's hard to choose

I feel this every time, but Bakerist Brown has such a wide variety of bread that I always end up happily agonizing over what to get. Looking at this photo now, I want to try that melon-bread-looking one at the front too haha.

A café where you can find something satisfying whether you're stopping by hungry or craving something sweet — think mild, soft egg tarts and hearty sausage bread.

With so many visitors, turnover is fast, so the bread case sometimes empties out like this — but it gets restocked quickly.

Three floors of seating — arrive right at opening and you can pick your spot

Bakerist Brown spans three floors, and thanks to its large size, you can choose seating to your taste, which is a big plus. Since I got there right when it opened, I could look around at the different seats and pick the one I liked.

There are open, airy hall seats that never feel cramped

And private corner seats too — if you arrive early, you get to choose. We sat at a sunny window seat. In this autumn weather, it would be a shame to pass up sunlight like that~

What we ordered — mentaiko baguette, sand cookie set, black sesame latte

We ordered the mentaiko baguette and the sand cookie set.

We also got a black sesame latte and a café latte. The drink portions are a bit smaller than at other cafés. Still, Bakerist Brown's sweet drinks put me in a good mood the moment I taste them, which is probably why I keep coming back haha.

Two cups: black sesame latte and café latte

I especially loved the black sesame latte — the nutty black sesame cream piled on top of the latte gives it such a wonderfully nutty, smooth flavor.

The sand cookie is a baked cookie with rich, thick cream sandwiched inside. It might feel a bit pricey for its size and taste, so honestly I found the bread more satisfying ^^

The mentaiko bread leans quite salty

The mentaiko mayo bread is packed with a huge amount of mentaiko (salted pollock roe)! The salty mentaiko flavor is fantastic and pairs so well with coffee haha. If you're not a fan of salty flavors, I'd recommend a different bread! Since they really pack in the mentaiko, it's noticeably saltier than similar breads from other bakeries!

Still, the sweet-and-salty combo is filling and puts you in a good mood haha. Eating just one or two pieces after a meal gives you the perfect sugar boost. There are several flavors to choose from too.

A large café that's also comfortable for getting work done

My sister and I used the café to check in on our Turkey vlog progress. Since it's such a large café, it's a nice place to visit when you have work to do and want to get it done comfortably.

We took the leftover sand cookies home! When I asked for them to be packed, they put them in a cute lunchbox-style box. They're really good back home with an iced americano too.

When you're taking a break in Gangnam, how about stopping by Bakerist Brown for some sweet bread and a nutty cup of coffee!
