Gangnam café for Mont Blanc cake and butter scones: Something About Coffee

We were about to head straight home after dinner, but stopped by Something About Coffee because we wanted to try a variety of desserts. It is great for the weather lately! My mom and I both have small appetites, so we wondered whether we could possibly finish dessert when we were already so full—but takeaway was available, so we decided to go.

A spacious dessert café between Gangnam and Sinnonhyeon Stations

It sits between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, and it is a large café occupying the first through third floors of the building, so it is a good place to visit when you are looking for a café with plenty of space in Gangnam. More than just a place for coffee, this is a dessert café with a truly wide selection of cakes, scones, financiers, and more.

There is terrace seating as well as indoor seating, making it nice for good-weather days.
Each floor has slightly different seating and a different atmosphere.
You can pack up desserts you do not finish, and takeaway is available.

Something About Coffee has an overall vintage, warm feel. Rather than looking overly neat and modern, the furniture and lighting mix slightly different designs for a comfortable, lived-in look.

The third floor in particular has both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace, so it is also lovely for having coffee outside on a nice day. Vintage interiors and a third-floor terrace.

I also liked that the space is divided across floors, giving each seating area a slightly different mood.

Choosing cakes and baked treats

There were seriously so many kinds of desserts.

There were so many baked treats that it looked like a good place to pick up dessert without even staying at the café. Takeaway is available.

Mont Blanc cake

For cake, we chose the Mont Blanc cake. The cream was soft, with the sweet, nutty flavor distinctive to chestnuts, and it was delicious. It is the kind of dessert that goes well with coffee, and I recommend it if you usually like Mont Blanc or chestnut desserts.

Chocolate salty financier

We also tried the chocolate salty financier, half-coated in chocolate. The financier's buttery flavor is joined by sweet chocolate and a subtle salty note, making it a sweet-and-salty combination. It was not an overwhelming size, so it was easy to order one more alongside the cake.

Red bean butter scone

This was a red bean butter scone, one of my favorite combinations. Red bean paste and butter are tucked inside the scone, and eating them together made it nutty and sweet—so good. The scone's substantial texture, butter, and red beans also made it a great match for coffee.

Iced Americano

Since we ordered several desserts, we ordered an iced Americano too. Taking a sip of Americano after sweet cake or a scone went really well together. Especially if you order several desserts, I think having one coffee as an Americano is a great combination.

Matcha cream chocolate latte

The matcha cream chocolate latte caught my eye from the moment I saw it. It has a smooth chocolate latte on the bottom and rich matcha cream on top, so you can taste both chocolate and matcha. I also liked that matcha's characteristic slight bitterness kept the chocolate sweetness from feeling too strong. Its color combination was pretty, too, making it the most eye-catching menu item in photos.

Leftover desserts can be packed up

We ordered several desserts and had a little left over, so we packed them up to take home. You can also order them packed from the start, which makes it nice that you can take anything left over from the café without feeling burdened.
