Heading to Boram-dong for a beef platter

My boyfriend and I were wondering what to have for dinner, then came to Hanmaeum Butcher Restaurant for meat for the first time in ages!!!!!!!!!!!

I come to Boram-dong often while living in Sejong, but this was my first time here. I was surprised by how huge the restaurant was. The tables are nicely spaced out, and there are plenty of seats farther inside, so it seems fine for families or work dinners too.

Picking several cuts from the whole beef set

After debating, we just wanted to try a bit of everything, so we ordered the whole beef set. The meat comes out piled high on one big platter like this. I think it included galbisal (beef rib meat), chadolbagi (thin-sliced beef brisket), LA galbi, and flat iron steak, but honestly, rather than analyzing every cut while eating, we just threw whichever one looked delicious onto the grill first haha. Still, it was nice to have several cuts instead of just one kind. It was quite a generous amount for two people, too.

We put the brisket on first. It is thin and cooks in no time, so it is perfect when you are hungry..

We also grilled mushrooms alongside it. I love grilled mushrooms when I eat meat, so I made sure to finish every last one of these too.

Beef is such a waste if you overcook it, so I ate it right away once it was cooked just enough. The meat was more tender than I expected, and each cut had a different texture, which made choosing what to eat fun.

There was LA galbi too, and since I have always loved meat on the bone, I enjoyed it haha. Looking at the photo makes me want it again..

This beef is seriously insane… It melts the second it hits your mouth—I cannot tell whether I am eating the meat or the meat is vanishing on its own. 🥩

The savory juices just burst out, and the flavor keeps building the more you chew; honestly, it is unfair. I had one piece and said, “Wow, this is good,” but from the second piece onward, I went silent. Person who gets quiet when eating something delicious = me. You do not need conversation in front of beef. Just grill, eat, marvel, and grill again on endless repeat hahaha. Especially when it is grilled with just a little pink left and dipped in salt, game over. After a rich cut, eat one leaner piece and you can start all over again. I keep saying I am full, but my chopsticks are still moving… Beef is something you eat with your heart, not your stomach, right? Once again, I was completely defeated by beef. In my next life, I want to be a chaebol who eats lots of beef. 🥹

Included doenjang jjigae and complimentary dishes

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) here comes as a basic included dish. When you are eating meat, you inevitably start craving something brothy, so I liked that it came out without having to order it separately.

That day, we also received steamed egg and jjolmyeon (spicy chewy noodles) as complimentary dishes. The steamed egg was great for scooping up here and there while eating meat, and surprisingly, the jjolmyeon went really well with it. Beef can start to feel a little rich when you keep eating it, but have a bite of jjolmyeon and go back to the meat haha. Eat like this and the endless loop is possible ~~~ mwah ❤️

Overall, it did not feel like an extremely special or upscale beef restaurant so much as a comfortable place to visit when you want to eat a generous amount of several beef cuts. The restaurant is spacious, the platter comes piled high with meat, and even the doenjang jjigae is included, so we left feeling nicely full.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat meat in Boram-dong, it is worth trying at least once. We will probably come back next time we are craving a huge amount of meat too haha.
