Why I tidied only my roots instead of straightening all of my damaged hair

After getting a full restorative straightening treatment earlier this year, my hair was so badly damaged that I could not go to a salon for quite a while. It is open Monday and Wednesday through Sunday from 09:30 to 20:00, and regularly closed every Tuesday. Parking and valet are available for ₩4,000 each. For valet, use the valet booth opposite 40-10 Cheongdam-dong, then walk about 40 m toward Gangnam-gu Office Station and enter the building where Beorn Hair is located.

Hanna, the senior director, worked on my hair this time. I had barely been to a salon since getting full restorative straightening earlier this year, and over time my roots had become quite curly again. My hair is especially prone to damage to begin with, so I am always really cautious whenever I get it straightened. This time, we discussed tidying just the grown-out sections instead of straightening everything again.

I sipped the drink they prepared for me and relaxed while I waited. It had been a while since I had gone to a salon, so I was oddly excited—but at the same time, I was a little worried about whether it would turn out well because my hair was so damaged.

After consultation, I added a nourishing hair clinic

During the consultation, they said that given my hair condition, it would be better to add a nourishing hair clinic rather than simply doing root straightening alone. They explained that pushing ahead with the treatment while my hair was badly damaged could cause more damage, so I paid extra and had the clinic treatment as well. I liked that they did not just proceed with the service automatically, but assessed the current condition of my hair and explained the care I needed.

Beorn Hair Cheongdam is also a dog-friendly salon, and there was even a customer who had brought in an adorable Bichon. I saw the pup as I passed by and stared at it for ages because it was so cute, haha. Being able to visit with your dog seems like another plus.

Root straightening with a personalized formula

Time to begin the treatment! Because my hair has a high level of damage, Hanna took extra care with it. Instead of using the usual formula, she used a personalized formula suited to my hair condition, and that really made the service feel thorough. She focused the root straightening on the grown-out sections while taking care to put as little stress as possible on the hair that was already damaged.

Midway through, I went over for a shampoo, and that felt so refreshing too. A staff member shampooed my hair and gave me a scalp massage as well; it felt like I was finally getting proper care again after so long. A massage during a salon shampoo somehow makes it even more satisfying :)

Because my hair was damaged, I had the clinic treatment alongside it, and I could definitely feel my hair settling down smoothly during the service. My hair had felt especially rough and dry, but it noticeably felt softer, haha.

A tidy result that did not lie flat

The curliness in my grown-out roots was neatly smoothed out, and my hair looked calmer overall. What I liked most was that even after root straightening, it did not lie too flat or look unnaturally straight. My hair also felt much softer than I expected, and the texture was lovely to the touch, so I was really satisfied.

For anyone like me who has heavily damaged hair and worries every time they get it straightened, I think it is important to check your current hair condition first instead of automatically having a full treatment.
