Family eel dinner near Bongcheon Station: 1.5kg grilled eel
In short
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel Direct Store (장수촌풍천장어직판장) is a grilled eel restaurant near Exit 5 of Bongcheon Station in Gwanak, Seoul. Visiting with her mom and dad, the writer ordered 1kg of salt-grilled eel plus 500g more for a total of 1.5kg, then followed it up with bokbunja (Korean raspberry wine), clam noodle soup, and loach soup with rice. Staff grill and cut the eel tableside, and the roomy second floor makes it work for both family meals and group dinners.

Today I'm writing about Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel Direct Store, where I went with my mom and dad :)
Apparently my dad used to come here a lot for company dinners back in the day. It's a pretty old spot, so it's a familiar eel place for him haha.
Originally we were supposed to go all together with my sister and her kid too, but my niece suddenly came down with the flu so they couldn't join us ㅠㅠ So in the end it was just me, mom, and dad.

It's close to Bongcheon Station, so it was an easy spot to reach by public transit.

Inside the restaurant — two floors, good for group dinners
Once inside, the space felt bigger than I expected, with several tables. Each table had a grill set up for eel, and there was ventilation installed above.

There was also seating on the second floor, so it looked good not just for family meals but for company dinners or group gatherings too. My dad said he used to come here a lot with coworkers, and once I saw it myself, I could see why it's a popular spot for that haha.

A baby chair was available, and the restroom is on the second floor, with separate ones for men and women.

1.5kg of eel for three people
The three of us — me, mom, and dad — ordered 1kg of salt-grilled eel plus 500g more, for a total of 1.5kg.

As soon as the eel came out, it looked plump and thick — looked really good haha.

The basic side dishes
Once you order, the staff first set up the basic side dishes. We got chive salad, shredded ginger, garlic, and perilla leaves — all things that go well with eel. Eel is delicious plain, but it was also fun to mix and match with the side dishes.

Getting lettuce from the self-serve corner
Lettuce wasn't part of the initial side dish set.

I like eating eel wrapped in lettuce, so I went to the self-serve corner and grabbed some myself haha. The self-serve corner had lettuce, vegetables, garlic, chili, kimchi, and shredded ginger, so you can just go grab whatever side dish or ingredient you're missing.
Eel grilled tableside by the staff
Once the eel came out, a staff member put it right on the grill and cooked it for us. They flipped it periodically, and once it was cooked enough, they even cut it into bite-sized pieces for us — so all we had to do was eat comfortably.

The well-cooked eel was savory on the outside and tender on the inside.

It was fine plain, and it went well with the shredded ginger or chive salad too, but for me, the best way was a piece of eel on lettuce with garlic haha.

Adding bokbunja along the way
Partway through eating the eel, I got a craving for bokbunja, so we ordered a bottle mid-meal. Bokbunja: ₩10,000 per bottle.

The sweet bokbunja went so well with the savory eel that mom, dad, and I each had a glass haha.

Finishing menu — clam noodle soup
After the eel, we also ordered clam noodle soup (바지락칼국수). It had clams in it along with seaweed.
With warm broth and noodles, it was a good way to wrap things up after the eel. It was also plenty for the three of us to share.

Last but not least — loach soup with rice
At the end, we also had loach soup (추어탕). Rice isn't included by default, so we ordered it separately — two bowls of rice at ₩1,000 each to go with it.
We'd already eaten quite a lot from the eel through the noodle soup, but with hot loach soup and rice on top, it felt like we'd had a truly full meal haha.

Final thoughts
The three of us had a hearty meal with my parents — from 1.5kg of eel to noodle soup to loach soup haha. It was convenient having the staff grill the eel for us, and it was nice being able to grab any missing side dishes from the self-serve corner. The restaurant was spacious too, so it looked good for family meals or group dinners alike. Next time I'd like to go with my sister's family too.
