Siheung Baegot eel buffet: ginger slivers and refill tips, Songnim Bok

In short

Songnim Bok Jangeo Baegot Branch is an all-you-can-eat freshwater eel restaurant in the Baegot commercial district of Siheung, Gyeonggi. Adults pay 29,900 won plus a separate 3,000 won table charge, and diners take as much freshwater eel, chicken neck and pork belly as they want from the self-serve bar and grill it themselves; the eel is thick, and topping it with sauce and ginger slivers was the best combination. Songnim Bok Jangeo is worth recommending in Baegot when you want to eat eel until you are full without spending much.

Eel is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of boosting your stamina! I recently went to recharge at Songnim Bok Jangeo Baegot Branch, an all-you-can-eat eel spot in Siheung. Recommending this Baegot restaurant if you want to eat quality eel until you're absolutely stuffed, haha.

Where is Songnim Bok Jangeo Baegot Branch, and where do you park?

Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Siheung Baegot Direct Branch is located near the central commercial area of Baegot. The exterior is green and big, so it wasn't hard to find at all. If you're driving, the building's basement parking lot offers 2 hours free, so it's easy to bring a car, haha.

Business hours are generous — daily from 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM. Walking in, the interior was bigger than I expected and very pleasant. There were plenty of tables with comfortable spacing between seats, so it looked great for group visits too. Seems good for a family dinner or a company get-together~

How much does the eel buffet cost?

Since this is a Siheung eel buffet, the Songnim Bok Jangeo menu was pretty simple. The all-you-can-eat price is ₩29,900 for adults, with a separate table charge of ₩3,000. Usually ordering eel and a meal at a dedicated eel restaurant gets seriously expensive, but here it's all-you-can-eat, so you take as much as you want — great value!

Before the eel arrived, I read up on how to grill eel deliciously and even learned about 7 health benefits of freshwater eel.

What comes with the basic table setting and the self-serve bar?

Here's what the basic table setting at Songnim Bok Jangeo Baegot Branch looks like! Chicken thigh, pork belly, and eel come as the default meats. I thought it would just be eel, but being able to enjoy a variety of meats together was a nice surprise, haha.

Side dishes that go well with eel — pickled perilla leaves, rinsed aged kimchi, green onion kimchi, pickled onions, ginger slivers, and sauce — are all set out, and you can grab more from the self-serve bar. Some sides like lettuce, sesame oil, garlic, cheongyang chili peppers, and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) don't come out at first, so make a trip to the bar before you start eating, haha.

How big and how good is the all-you-can-eat eel?

Honestly, I was half curious and half worried that being all-you-can-eat, the eel might come thin or small — but not at all! The eel was surprisingly big and thick. It looked fresh and high quality just by looking at it.

In what order should you grill the eel?

First grill the eel skin-side down, and once it's cooked through on both sides, cut it into bite-sized pieces, then stand the pieces up and grill the sides evenly until golden brown~

The outside is golden and the inside is thick, so it has great texture when you bite in — delicious even plain, but topping it with eel sauce and ginger is absolutely incredible! I don't normally like ginger, but when eating eel I just devour it, haha. The rinsed aged kimchi here was also delicious — kept thinking about it.

Tip: how to refill without breaking your grilling flow

I brought over more eel from the self-serve bar. Since it's a self-serve all-you-can-eat system, you can freely get more without feeling self-conscious~ Eel takes a bit of time to cook, so cut the already-cooked eel and set it aside, then put the freshly brought eel right in the center of the grill. You don't have to eat a lot, but this is a tip from someone who absolutely hates having their grilling flow interrupted, haha.

Final verdict on Songnim Bok Jangeo in Siheung Baegot

All the side dishes were delicious too, which paired great with the eel! Having other meats besides eel meant I didn't get tired of it even by the end. I love eel but the price is always a burden — this place was both good value and delicious, haha.

The restaurant is spacious too, so it's great for a family meal, a group dinner, or a gathering. Recommending Songnim Bok Jangeo Baegot Branch, a good-value all-you-can-eat eel restaurant and Baegot favorite in Siheung~
