Daegu barbecue restaurant nachos and tortilla wraps: Modak

I was looking for something good to eat near Dongdaegu Station, and this time I decided to skip the usual Korean food or grilled meat and try something a bit different. Texas-style barbecue! I went to Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch, near Dongdaegu Station and Shinsegae Department Store.

I've always liked barbecue so I was curious how it would taste, but honestly the vibe of the place and the food itself were way more unique than I expected, so I had a really fun meal.

Where is Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch, and where do you park?

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is super accessible, right near Dongdaegu Station. As soon as I arrived, I loved that the vibe was a bit different from a regular restaurant! The exterior really stood out with that American West feel, true to a Texas barbecue specialty place — like enjoying barbecue right in the middle of the city? It reminded me of America haha.

Parking at the MD Building lot: 4,000 won prepaid

Modak Texas Barbecue lets you use a nearby parking lot, and if you use the MD Building attached parking lot and order over 50,000 won worth of food, you get 4,000 won off parking. If you're driving, this is good to keep in mind.

But honestly, the guy at the parking lot was pretty unfriendly lol. Also the parking fee is 4,000 won prepaid. Kind of a funny system haha.

An American-style interior in Dong-gu, Daegu

Walking inside, the mood from the exterior carried right on through into the restaurant. It's decorated mainly in wood tones, with American-style decor and neon signs added in, so it definitely felt different from a typical Korean grilled meat restaurant.

Overall it had a casual but slightly exotic atmosphere, so it seemed like a good spot for a date, and also good for visiting with friends or a bigger group meal. There are seats in various layouts too, so it works for small visits as well as family gatherings or group get-togethers!

Modak Texas Barbecue menu: the Memphis Platter Set for two, 77,000 won

True to its name, Modak Texas Barbecue centers on Texas-style barbecue but has a wide range of menu items. From barbecue dishes like brisket, spare ribs, pulled pork and buffalo wings to steak, pasta and rice dishes, I liked that you could pick based on your taste.

We ordered the two-person Memphis Platter Set: the Texas Platter (brisket 150g, pulled pork 150g, buffalo wings x3 + side) plus spare ribs 250g, for 77,000 won.

Nachos came out first as the appetizer. They were made with a house sauce and were really tasty. And then the two-person Memphis Platter Set.

The set includes the Texas Platter (brisket 150g, pulled pork 150g, buffalo wings x3 + side) plus spare ribs 250g. The meat here is slow-smoked for a long time, so you get a subtle smoky aroma from the meat, and well-cooked meat that just falls apart along the grain.

How to eat the platter with tortillas and salad

I loved that the Modak Texas Barbecue platter isn't just about eating barbecue plain — you can pair it with sides like tortillas, salad, and fries. Dipping the meat in sauce, then wrapping it in a tortilla, then having it with salad each gave a slightly different feel even though it's the same meat.

So if you're visiting with a few people, ordering one platter and sharing it with the sides seems like a good idea too.

Personally, I thought Modak Texas Barbecue had more atmosphere than a typical grilled meat restaurant, so it seemed like a good place to visit on a date. It's also convenient if you're shopping at Dongdaegu Station or Shinsegae Department Store and heading over for dinner.
